Full Job Description

PRESIDENT & CEO

The National First Ladies’ Library (“NFLL”), the primary nonprofit partner of the National Park Service at First Ladies National Historic Site (FILA) in Canton, Ohio, is pleased to announce an excellent career opportunity currently available as the President & CEO.

Who We Are:

The NFLL is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to preserve, promote and educate about the significant role of First Ladies and their contributions throughout history. The NFLL operates at First Ladies National Historic Site in a partnership agreement with the National Park Service. In October 2000, President Bill Clinton signed a bill establishing the First Ladies National Site as the 380th unit of the National Park Service. The site consists of the Ida Saxton McKinley House, the family home of First Lady Ida Saxton McKinley and the longtime residence of William and Ida McKinley, and the Education and Research Center. The Education Center has exhibit space, a Victorian theatre, a research library, conference and seminar rooms, archival storage and processing rooms, and administrative offices. Who We Are Looking For:

The President & CEO will provide overall leadership and management with a focus on building relationships with other local and national museums, historic sites, former presidential administrations, and collectors; enhancing awareness of the Site; developing strategies to raise funds and build staff capacity; creating cost-effective and ongoing sources of revenue through retail and other channels; and generally advancing the mission of the NFLL through preservation, promotion and education about the significant role of First Ladies and their contributions throughout history.

The successful candidate will have, at a minimum, five years of related nonprofit experience including demonstrated success working with nonprofit boards of directors and fundraising. Prior work experience in public-private partnerships is highly desirable.

Skill requirements include a broad working knowledge of fund development, board and committee development, financial and office administration, and human resource management. Community and public relations expertise is vital; working knowledge of social media and marketing would be helpful. Proven team building, community partner development, and decision-making abilities are key. Master’s Degree preferred.

Additional Information:

This role manages a current staff of two professionals with deep knowledge in and day-to-day responsibilities for research, museum asset management, education, programming, and outreach. Together the staff and President & CEO are responsible for building and maintaining relationships.

Additionally, the President & CEO works closely with the National Park Service (“NPS”) site manager who oversees basic operations of the facilities and provides NPS resources in support of NFLL operations. The two entities, in partnership with each other, optimize the talents of their respective teams to ensure a high-quality experience for the site’s in-person visitors and outreach initiatives.
