Position Description:

Full-time. The assistant director of admissions and student recruitment will have the primary responsibility to assist the director of admissions in the provision of leadership for admissions programs, services, and outcomes on the assigned campus. Responsibilities will also include demonstrating originality, initiative, and ingenuity in the creation, implementation, and assessment of campus admissions and recruitment activities. The assistant director is responsible for providing administrative supervision to those performing admissions and recruitment services at diverse on-campus and off-campus locations. This position will also work closely with other members of the admissions team and Student Service Center, and assist with functions of the department during key times in the recruitment/admissions cycle.

Essential Functions:

  • Assists the director of admissions in the development, implementation, and maintenance of a strategic enrollment and recruitment plan that includes diverse recruitment activities including, but not limited to:
    • Outreach to area high schools including relationship building with guidance counselors, teachers, and administrators
    • Outreach to business and industry
    • Outreach to displaced/dislocated worker programs and other social service agencies
    • Planning of on-campus events and programs including general and targeted open houses
    • Involvement in early awareness program for middle school students
    • Oversight of the student ambassador program
    • Communicating with prospective student and families
    • Communicating with other members of the college community and other constituents throughout the region
    • Developing and delivering presentations before groups of varying size both on and off campus
  • Assists the director of admissions in the development, implementation, and evaluation of admissions policies and procedures; ensures compliance with campus, state, and federal policies.
  • Reviews admissions applications and makes admissions decisions in accordance with established criteria.
  • Assists in management of the admissions process for international students.
  • Applies technology (text, email, etc.) and the use of the Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) system in communication with potential students and assists with the development and coordination of communication plans to targeted groups of potential students.
  • Assists in the preparation of reports indicating enrollment trends and assessing recruitment efforts.
  • Serves as a recruitment liaison and provides recruitment leadership to academic divisions and other campus personnel.
  • Serves on appropriate campus and college-wide committees, as determined as assigned by the director of admissions.
  • Ensures the provision of quality customer service to prospective students.
  • Advises the Executive Director of the Cattaraugus County campus on admissions and recruitment matters, as appropriate to campus location.
  • Regular attendance.
  • Performs all other related duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications:

Required: Bachelor’s degree in communications, business, or related area with at least three years’ experience in higher education. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills; attention to detail and problem-solving skills; commitment to customer service; ability to handle multiple priorities; supervisory, budget management, and planning experience; proficiency in Microsoft Office. Sound decision-making and long-range planning abilities are essential as recommendations impact budgets and influence enrollments. Knowledge of or ability to learn current CRM and other college enrollment software programs. Ability to function with minimal supervision.

Preferred: College recruitment experience; master’s degree in communications, business, or related area.

Additional Information:

Salary: $49,233 - $56,800/year. Excellent benefits package, including medical and dental insurance, paid vacation and sick leave, and NYS retirement.
