A total of one(1), 1.0 FTE, Advanced Practice Professional (either NP or PA) will be hired to fill this job opening.

Summary

This position is for a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) for the Headache and Neuropathic Pain Clinic.  
This clinician will work in collaboration with physicians in the Department of Neurology and the Department of Anesthesiology.

Responsibilities*

Expectations for this position would include providing direct care to patients in the Headache and Neuropathic Pain Clinic, provide support to the physicians in clinic, handle higher level nursing issues, and contribute to the overall continuity of patients' care.


This clinician would provide clinical leadership in practice, staff development and research.  Participate in student, physician, and staff education and participate in ongoing quality improvement initiatives. 

 
Candidate would be expected to work with clinical staff for scheduling and triage issues as well as supporting clinic nurses in the provision of patient care as needed with the service.

Required Qualifications*

NP

  • Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in the State of Michigan.
  • Current specialty certification to practice as an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner or Family Nurse Practitioner
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).
  • Current DEA registration 
  • AHA Approved BLS

PA:

  • Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.
  • Satisfactory completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP.
  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • State of Michigan Controlled Substance License Required  
  • Current DEA registration required
  • AHA Approved BLS

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of the credentialing and privileging process.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Three (3) or more years of neurology experience.
  • Minimum of one year of experience as an APP
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with the Continuous Quality Improvement process
  • Demonstrated experience in implementation of service initiatives at the unit level
  • Demonstrated experience in professional writing and publication
  • Demonstrated ability to apply evidence- based clinical knowledge into the patient care setting via protocols, standards, and outcomes measurement.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills as evidenced by positive feedback through references and/or evaluations.
  • Ability to function independently and as a team member
  • High level of self-motivation to stay current in a rapid changing environment
  • Demonstrated ability to innovatively lead complex change projects, particularly those focused on raising patient care to the highest standards, in an academic, tertiary care environment.
  • Demonstrated competence with basic computer functions
  • Demonstrated ability to consistently work collaboratively with manager/ leadership team
  • Previous experience with and demonstrated ability to interact with internal and external personnel at all levels of an academic, tertiary care healthcare environment
  • Telehealth management experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated continuous professional development activities.
  • Demonstrated participation in research.

Work Schedule

Hours/Week:  40 
Shift/Hours/Days: Monday through Friday, specific shifts/ hours to be determined upon hire 
Location: Headache and Neuropathic Pain Clinic 
Burlington Building 

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Physician Assistants of Michigan Medicine, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening
