GBSD Systems Engineer (Hill AFB, Utah)

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab

Job Description

Description

Do you want an exciting opportunity to represent APL onsite at Hill AFB on a significant program of national importance while working directly with sponsors?

Do you love working with diverse teams of dedicated technical specialists from government and industry across the country?

And do you love the great outdoors, including skiing on world-class mountains, hiking on breathtaking trails, and kayaking on mountain rivers?

If so, we 're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL.

We are seeking a GBSD Systems Engineer for the Weapon Systems Engineering Group in the Force Projection Sector to serve as an onsite technical expert at Hill AFB in Utah. We provide vital systems engineering and system development expertise to nationally important strategic deterrence capabilities for the Navy and Air Force. As a member of our team, you will develop advanced MBSE capabilities, including system models, profiles, frameworks, and processes for the GBSD program. We are passionate about making critical contributions to this critically important program, and we want you to be a key part of our success. With your help, we will remain at the forefront of weapon systems engineering for the GBSD program.

As an on-site GBSD Systems Engineer...

  • Your primary responsibility will be as a technical advisor and subject matter expert to the government for overall systems engineering, including reviewing CDRLs, assisting with program planning, identifying and defining systems engineering processes and tools, and providing overall thought leadership.
  • You will participate as an active technical member of the government Systems Engineering team and the supporting subsystem technical teams to guide systems engineering and risk assessment activities.
  • You will work with the GBSD Prime Contractor and other industry partners to advise, review, and contribute to the overall Systems Engineering team.
  • You will participate in the government-led SE activities.
  • You will gain an in-depth understanding of the government systems engineering and M&S environment and tools, and provide ongoing recommendations based on gaps, risks, and efficient use of broad government team resources.
  • You will work with the implementation of the Digital Engineering System, including the integration of architecture and MBSE/ system models, analytical/physics-based models, trade tools, and simulations.
  • You will provide guidance on depth and implementation of MBSE processes and supporting analytics to support the government objective of "owning the technical baseline".
  • You will work with other APL SMEs at Hill AFB and in Laurel through a systems-level viewpoint.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Have a Bachelor's degree in engineering with 3+ years of relevant work experience in systems engineering.
  • Have broad system engineering experience including early concept development, requirements analysis, design, integration, test and evaluation, and risk assessment.
  • Have experience working on complex weapon system development programs.
  • Have demonstrated strong technical skills and the ability to operate effectively in multi-organizational teams in a dynamic and evolving landscape.
  • Are a thought leader with a keen ability to influence others.
  • Are able to effectively shape the day-to-day tasking to meet sponsor needs, multi-task, and adapt to changing demands with minimal guidance.
  • Have exceptionally strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills, and ability to interface with senior military and civil service personnel.
  • Are willing to relocate to Utah in the vicinity of Hill AFB, with periodic travel to APL, contractor sites, and to other locations. If relocation to Hill AFB is prohibitive, recurring extended travel to Utah may be considered.
  • Hold an active Secret security clearance and are able to obtain a Top Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
  • Can demonstrate that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. To ensure the safety and well-being of the community, APL has established a policy requiring that all staff be vaccinated against COVID-19. All staff members must provide proof of full vaccination or have an approved medical or religious accommodation by their start date.

You 'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • Have a Master 's degree in aerospace engineering, systems engineering, or related technical field with minimum 10 years of technical experience applying systems engineering.
  • Have MBSE experience in system modeling using UML/SysML and associated modeling software.
  • Have demonstrated experience defining processes, plans, and structures for executing a successful MBSE program.
  • Are a proven thought leader with sponsor engagement experience.
  • Have DoD acquisition experience.
  • Have experience with, and an understanding of Navy and/or Air Force strategic weapons systems including the Minuteman or GBSD weapon systems.
