Library Technician III, Technical Services (Acquisitions)

Class Description

The purpose of this class is to perform a variety of advanced technical duties to facilitate the appropriate ordering and processing of library materials. 

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree and three (3) years library technical services experience in cataloging, acquisitions, collection development or serials required. One (1) year community college library experience required. One (1) year budget or financial accounting experience preferred.

Class Specific Essential Duties

  1. Use Sierra, the library ILS, to perform job responsibilities. 
  2. Maintain accurate records and statistics using various online management systems. 
  3. Assist with special projects as required, such as college archives and digital repository.  
  4. Staff the information desk.

Position Specific Essential Duties

  1. Manage orders for new materials (for all CCBC Libraries) through the acquisitions workflow, including books, ebooks, leased books, print and online serials, streaming and physical media, via order record creation, upload, and updating in Sierra.
  2. Research selected materials as requested, place orders with various vendors, and prepare check requests for invoices. 
  3. Receive and process new library materials and monitor shipments for print and access for electronic resources for accurate receipt of ordered products. 
  4. Consult with their supervisor and work with vendors to resolve issues. 
  5. Manage the day-to-day operations of the acquisitions office, including regular workflow and supply inventory.
  6. Receive donations and forward them to their supervisor.  Prepare and distribute gift acknowledgement letters.
  7. Assist their supervisor in maintaining accurate streaming media and DDA records.
  8. Maintain the library’s Ebsco serials management software (A-to-Z).
