AACC is a tenure granting institution. Any candidate hired as a full-time faculty member may be eligible to apply for tenure in the future based on institutional eligibility requirements. This position requires regular in-person presence on campus or at alternative locations, depending on class schedule and other assigned duties. Flexible teaching schedules may be available based student need. AACC offers daytime, evening, weekend classes, hybrid and online classes.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Works with EMS department faculty and staff to support emergency medical responder, emergency medical technician (EMT) and paramedic level instruction through curriculum development in didactic (both synchronous and asynchronous presentations), psychomotor and clinical instruction, academic coaching, customer service, data support and documentation services that supports a diverse student population. Incorporate appropriate pedagogy with current technologies in the classroom, laboratory and simulation environment.

Work to maintain program compliance with accreditation standards according to American Heart Association (AHA), MIEMSS, CoAEMSP, CAHEEP, NHTSB and institutional requirements such as learning outcome objectives and course/program review. Willingness to attain MICRB certification. Comply with applicable college, state, and federal rules and regulations. Collaborate with educational partners, business/industry and/or external agencies as appropriate to promote the instructional mission and vision of AACC.

Support student success by creating an optimal learning environment, responding to student needs, managing effective learning/instructional activities, modeling employability and professionalism skills, develop working relationships with other faculty and staff throughout AACC that support the department’s and college’s mission and vision. Provide an environment conducive to student success through advising, retention strategies, referrals to program, school and campus or community resources. Develop, conduct and document appropriate assessments of student learning for course and programmatic outcomes.

Maintain clinical competency and certification level in Emergency Medical Services. Participate in professional development for their certification. Participate in professional development opportunities to advance teaching skills and strategies.

Provide daily and ongoing oversight of facilities, equipment and student records.
Maintain student records in accordance with established deadlines using a variety of technology-based programs (examples but not limited to: Colleague, CANVAS, FISDAP).

Attend college professional development sessions, college/school/department meetings, graduation and convocation as required.

Day, evening and weekend hours at all AACC locations may be required.

The paramedic program is a year-round program; summer hours are expected.

Responsibilities:
Primary responsibilities:
• Thirty faculty load hour annual contract taught during fall and spring terms – including face-to-face, online or hybrid instruction and instruction at off-site locations (including high schools) depending on student need
• Six office hours per week during the fall and spring terms which may include student advising and mentoring
• Teaching and assessing student learning
• Professional development
• Department, school and college/community service

In addition to a faculty member’s primary responsibilities, the exceptional candidate will also demonstrate commitment and experience in one or more of the following areas:
1. Mentoring students from target groups; new full-time or part-time faculty
2. Designing, formatting and delivering curriculum for all learning modalities
3. Training and consulting for workforce initiatives (e.g., for public and corporate partners, etc.)
4. Developing and implementing community education and extended learning programs
5. Partnering with colleagues to enhance services to students and the community
6. Recruiting and marketing
7. Devising retention strategies and activities
8. Establishing and strengthening relationships and collaborative activities including K-12 and baccalaureate-granting colleges

Required Qualifications:

• Self-motivated, creative and collaborative faculty member with the ability to work flexible hours including some weekends and evening to accommodate the needs of the department.
• Nationally registered paramedic; Maryland State certification preferred.
• Associate’s degree in health-related field from a regionally accredited college or university
• Three years of relevant field experience in EMS
• Minimum of two years teaching experience in an allied health field preferred in the pre-hospital field utilizing online (synchronous and asynchronous) and/or clinical education
• Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communications skills.
• Strong human relations skills, including the ability to function effectively and tactfully with diverse populations.

Preferred Qualifications:

• AHA BLS, ACLS and PALS instructor
• College teaching experience
• Maryland Instructor Certification (MICRB-approved). Applicant may be required to attain MICRB certification within two years of date of hire.
• Experience with accreditation and recordkeeping software for skills and patient experiences.
• Experience teaching cultural agility.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and other software programs.
• Bilingual or other language proficiency
