About the Department

The University Benefits Office of North Carolina State University administers statutory and voluntary benefit programs, as authorized by the General Assembly of North Carolina, the Office of State Personnel, and the University Group Insurance and Benefits Committee for over 9000 faculty and staff employees. The University Benefits office is responsible for managing the overall design, administration, communication, implementation and maintenance of benefit programs. In addition to health/welfare and retirement benefits, the University Benefits office also has responsibility of directing many other support programs such as Leave Administration.

Essential Job Duties

  • Serves as a support partner for employees by providing program support for Paid Parental Leave , FMLA, FIL and coordination for a variety of Leave programs offered by the Benefits Department.
  • Provides guidance with regards to rights and responsibilities of both employees and management in the navigation of leave processes. Also conducts presentations for various programs such as QuickStart and sessions for campus employees.
  • Assists staff and faculty with Wolftime System for the University based on the situation.
  • Learns, understands and administers/assists various other leave programs such as Leave without Pay, Voluntary Shared Leave, Scholarly Leave, Faculty 60-day Leave, and Military Leave as necessary.
  • Learns and understands Benefits Programs such as State Health Plan, dental, vision, and other asset protection plans (life insurance, cancer, accident and critical illness….).
  • Provides necessary reports and information to leadership as necessary.

Other Responsibilities

Complete special projects as assigned.

Minimum Experience/Education

Bachelor’s degree; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
 
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Use of good judgment, tact, and discretion
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters; ability to manage changing and conflicting priorities
  • Strong abilities with use of Microsoft Office Suite to include Word, Excel and Power Point
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently in a fast pace environment
  • Must be confident in decision making and be able to meet deadlines

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a Human Resources environment
  • HR certification (PHR, SPHR, or CBP) preferred
  • Notary
  • Experience specifically related to databases and spreadsheets
  • Ability to maintain multiple programs
