The Chemistry Department provides professional education for chemists at the undergraduate and graduate levels; teaches basic chemistry courses, which are needed by students enrolled in other department programs; advances the discipline of chemistry by conducting research; and serves the public by sharing information about chemistry through a variety of mechanisms and services.

Essential Job Duties

The Department of Chemistry at NC State University seeks to fill a tenure track faculty position in the area of Computational/Theoretical Chemistry. Our priority is to fill a position at the Assistant Professor rank, although exceptional candidates at other ranks will be considered for Associate or Full Professor positions. 

Successful candidates are expected to establish a nationally and internationally recognized research program and to demonstrate strong interests and abilities in teaching and mentoring at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Candidates are also expected to provide service to the Department, University, and wider professional community as a committee member, referee, advisor, officer, or representative.

Other Responsibilities

Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Head.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Candidates must possess a PhD in Chemistry or a related scientific field to be considered for this position.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Successful candidates must have a strong commitment to academic and research excellence, and an outstanding research record commensurate with the expectations of a major research university.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience engaging with diversity through activities such as fostering an inclusive environment, working with students from diverse backgrounds, or incorporating diverse perspectives in research. 
  • Preference will be given to candidates whose research interests complement existing programs and initiatives in the Department, College of Sciences, and University.
