Summary

The newly established Office of Culture, Community and Equity (OCCE) is seeking a leader and seasoned professional with expertise in organizational evaluation and assessment. We believe that moving the needle on the Culture Pillar in the College of Engineering means the creation of a robust assessment and evaluation strategy. 

The assistant director will be responsible for the development and execution of evaluation of specific programs and the related data collection, management and reporting protocols. They will conduct in-depth analysis of programs and make recommendations for future program planning implementation. They will establish consistent data collection, reporting and evaluation systems and procedures and may evaluate the merits of proposals for new projects. Employees in this classification typically analyze, compare and evaluate various courses of action and have the authority to make independent decisions on matters of significance, free from immediate direction, within the scope of their responsibilities. Primary activities and decision making authority are predominantly performed independently affecting business operations to a substantial degree.

Using their collaboration and communication skills, the assistant director will work  with faculty, staff, undergraduate and graduate students, senior administrators, alumni, and business or community partners. The position is an FLSA exempt position that reports directly to the Executive Director for Culture, Community and Equity.

Responsibilities*

  • Work closely with the Executive Director for Culture, Community and Equity to evaluate and assess programmatic (primarily non-curricular) and organizational success indicators
  • Provide direction and expertise in setting goals and developing action plans s for test development, administration, recording, and security of assessments 
  • Oversee the design, construction and use of policies and procedures to gather, interpret, and present data to stakeholders and decision makers at all levels 
  • Coordinate the collection, evaluation and dissemination of reports 
  • Collect data using qualitative and/or quantitative approaches 
  • Conduct statistical analyses with detailed written documentation that ensures analytic reproducibility
  • Create templates and reporting forms for assessment 

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with 3-5 years of full-time work experience (acombination of education and experience may be considered)
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including the demonstrated ability to synthesize ideas, anticipate next steps and prioritize important decisions
  • Excellent organizational, project management, communications and presentation  skills
  • Demonstrated skill in fostering relationships and building professional networks
  • Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality, discretion and integrity
  • Ability to work in team environment with persons from diverse backgrounds
  • Awareness and focus on continuous change and improvement
  • Knowledge and expertise in advanced statistical and computer applications in educational assessment

Desired Qualifications*

  • Master’s Degree degree in a relevant field with 8+ years of experience
  • Experience in budget management and strategic planning
  • Demonstrated comfort in working with Qualtrics, the entire Microsoft Suite (especially robust use of Excel), and some experiences with SPSS or another analytical platform
  • Working familiarity with and an appreciation of the diverse cultures of the University of Michigan, including identity-based and intersectional diversity
  • Previous experience as an external evaluator for National Science Foundation (NSF) or National Institutes of Health (NIH) sponsored programs (e.g., AGEP, LSAMP, S-STEM)
  • Extensive previous experience in assessment development and delivery in academic institutions 
  • Previous experience as an internal change agent within academic institutions

Work Locations

The Office of OCCE operates in a hybrid work environment consisting of both in-person and remote work. This position will be classified as a FLEX position within the Michigan Engineering STARR classification matrix which means working on campus three days per week and working remotely the rest of the week. This position requires occasional travel to multiple locations on and off campus and may require domestic travel at times. This role will have space in a building on the Ann Arbor north campus.

A higher salary may be considered for an extraordinarily qualified candidate.
