Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Universities at Shady Grove (USG) offers nearly 80 undergraduate and graduate degree programs from nine Maryland public universities on one convenient campus in Montgomery County. USG helps prepare students for rewarding careers in the region’s most high-demand fields. Students who successfully complete their coursework on the USG campus graduate with a degree from one of its nine partner universities. Through on-campus services such as academic coaching, career advising, internship preparation, personal counseling, and leadership training, students leave the USG campus with the academic skills and real-world experiences needed for successful careers.

Reporting to the Associate Director, Datacenter and Academic Systems Services at the Universities of Shady Grove (USG), this IT position is responsible for complex, large scale configuration and project-based planning and development of USG’s datacenter and end-point systems infrastructure. Responsibilities include the implementation, configuration and design of hardware, software and databases, monitoring the performance of such systems, and ensuring security and administrative best practices and procedures are maintained. This position provides high level technical expertise to USG’s user community and departmental units, dealing primarily with Active Directory, VMware, MECM, JAMF, Mac and Windows Operating Systems. The role requires the candidate to work within a team of technical counterparts to ensure overall system availability across the USG technological environment, including providing high level support for USG and Partner end-points, hosted applications, servers, technical services, cloud offerings and other technologies.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Education:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Minimum Experience: 
Seven years of experience with the types of hardware and software to be supported.

NOTE: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to prioritize and work on multi-tiered, complex projects and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to take initiative to acquire skills with new technologies.
  • Skills in trouble shooting and problem solving.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Skilled in IT documentation.
  • Skills in communications, both written and verbal, across all modes of communication (in person, phone, email, and IM).

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Experience with Microsoft Active Directory and Related Products: LDAP, AD, DNS, DHCP, GPO, PKI.
  • Experience with PowerShell; VMWare vSphere 6.5 or greater, Microsoft Server 2012(r2) / 2016 / 2019, Microsoft SQL Server 2014 or Greater; MECM / SCCM / WSUS / MDM.
  • Knowledge of networking basics, DFS / File Shares.
