Job Summary

The Center for Health and Counseling at Salt Lake Community College is an integrated student health center. Provide front and back office assistance in the clinic addressing student health needs under direction of licensed clinical staff.

Assist with patient exams including assessing patient vital signs; administer medications including injectable medications and vaccines. Perform laboratory work including venipuncture, finger stick, urinalysis, and culture specimens. Triage patients per defined scope of care and administer first aid.

Perform office duties to include answering phones, keyboarding and data entry using a variety of software programs; scheduling appointments and manage patient records; accounts payable and receivable; maintaining a safe, efficient, confidential, patient-friendly working environment to ensure a quality experience for patients.

Participate in staff meetings and programs related to the clinics and the Center for Health and Counseling department as a whole.

Participate in quality assurance programs to ensure optimal clinic performance while adhering to current OSHA and employee health standards to ensure a safe patient and work place environment.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

Assist with patient exams, including assessing patient vital signs; administer medications including injectable medications and vaccines. Perform laboratory work including venipuncture, finger stick, urinalysis, culture specimens, etc. Assist in supervision and coordination of learning experiences for MA students’ externships and work-study students. Triage patients per defined scope of care and administer first aid.

Preform office duties to include answering phones, keyboarding, and data entry using a variety of software programs; scheduling appointments and manage patient records; accounts payable, and receivable; maintaining a safe, efficient, confidential, patient-friendly working environment to ensure a quality experience for patients. Participate in staff meetings and programs related to the clinics and Health and Wellness department as a whole.

Participate in quality assurance programs to ensure optimal clinic performance while adhering to current OSHA and employee health standards to ensure a sate patient and work place environment. Current CPR certification and other continuing education, reliable personal attendance and punctuality to ensure a smooth, efficient clinic flow and maintain consistent clinic hours of operation.
Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with a second language is a plus.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • One additional year of experience in one or more of the following areas: medical assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, clerical, reception, scheduling, cashiering, administrative assistant, and other medical or healthcare related experience.
  • Current Certified Medical Assistant credential or the equivalent of two years demonstrated medical assistant experience including clinical skills, administrative skills, and laboratory skills.

Trade off 1:1 in experience/education for additional one year of experience requirement.
For example, completion of 30 credit hours (1 year equivalent) of post high school higher education may be considered in lieu of the one additional year of experience.

Part time experience may be considered on a prorated basis.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Laboratory skills including venipuncture, finger stick, urinalysis, and culture specimens.
  • Ability to work accurately and efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Utilization of critical thinking skills with the ability to identify and articulate any concerns or problems in a timely manner.
  • Keyboard and data entry skills using a variety of software programs.
  • Excellent office, time management, inter-personal and organizational skills.
  • Team player with strong customer service skills enabling a smooth interface with a diverse campus community in person, phone, or electronic communications.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality to ensure a smooth, efficient clinic flow, and maintain consistent clinic hours of operation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, and ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
  • Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic background of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
