  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and two years of experience in the field of world languages, world cultures, comparative literature, or a related field, including academic advising experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of the suite of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Outlook, Outlook Calendar, Excel) data management programs (SharePoint, Webi, Qualtics) and learning management platforms used in higher education (Banner, Target X, Salesforce).
  • Website/graphic design (Drupal, Publisher, Canva).

  • Ability to work independently, and to manage time efficiently.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a humanities discipline related to world languages, world cultures, or comparative literature, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of the humanities (specifically world languages, literature, and cultural studies) as an academic discipline and experience working effectively with the diverse student and faculty populations (domestic and international).

Duty/Responsibility

ACADEMIC ADVISING AND OUTREACH
For language majors, work with chairs, program coordinators, and faculty to manage undergraduate advising: assign advisors for new students, welcome students into the major and assist students in making initial contact with their advisors, assist faculty to meet students’ needs (petitions, forms, or other procedures).

For the six minors and one cognate in the department, recruit and advise minors, keep record of students intending to minor, communicate with faculty to facilitate integration of minors into the department community beyond participation in their courses; for the interdisciplinary area studies minors to which LLC contributes (Latin American Studies, Asian Studies, Middle Eastern Studies, recruit students, and put students in touch with appropriate faculty, coordinators, and advisors. Additionally, coordinate World Language Ambassador Program, Serve on COLA Academic Advising Committee, and collaborate with Dean’s Office to process foreign language placement, and provide support for registration and enrollment.

For all B.A. students, serve as the primary contact for the foreign language requirement. Provide initial contact for prospective students and their families at COLA open houses; provide support and advising for language placement and enrollment during June orientation.
Work with students on pathways, study abroad, internship or other high impact activities; discuss career goals and value of the Liberal Arts. Identify and liaise with appropriate staff in other departments and other Colleges; Collaborate with the UNH Foundation in providing information to alums and potential donors interested in supporting the Dept. of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures. Highlight student success through alumni profiles and market department programs.

Duty/Responsibility

ADMINISTRATIVE MANAGEMENT AND EVENT PLANNING and DATA.
Assist the department chair with all administrative aspects of the department, including both immediate problem-solving, short-range planning, and strategic growth and proposals. Develop and maintain rich relationships and trust with other units on campus, including Admissions, University Advising Center (UAC), Career and Professional Success (CaPS), Office of International Scholars and Students (OISS), the Honors Program and Hamel Center/Undergraduate Research Conference (URC), and among others.

Perform a wide array of complex responsibilities in support of a diverse range of program events and activities, both for the Dept. of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures and execute project management (e.g., timely completion of program reviews, accreditation renewals, etc.) and communications (e.g., department website and calendar). Work with program coordinators to ensure timely academic catalog updates and oversee all course scheduling in consultation with the department chair. Ensure efficacy in faculty and classroom scheduling. Act as a point of contact to the Office of the Registrar for timely and accurate submission of academic courses. Serve as liaison regarding key maintenance and telecommunications matters; consult with chair about assignments of faculty offices; communicate with vendors (e.g., Conway). Facilitates scholarship administration.

Coordinate LLC event details to assist Department chair and Faculty. Details include but are not limited to: community outreach, room reservation, hiring, designing materials, planning the program, working with vendors, budgeting, assisting chair recruit funding etc.
Develop, coordinate, and facilitate campus-wide programming relevant to the mission of the department in collaboration with other units on campus (e.g., OISS, CaPS, UAC, Res Life), as well as K-12 outreach.

Review and make recommendations for updating department policies and procedures. Manage data and prepare reports on all aspects of the department (e.g., student enrollment, majors/minors, student evaluations). Collect and analyze assessment data for use in developing future programs.

Duty/Responsibility

BUDGETING AND FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
Carries out fiscal responsibilities, including purchases, monitoring budget and expenditures.
Manages supplies. Work with the chair to plan the department budget, manage all financial aspects of the department (including travel reimbursements, events, speakers, etc.), and update/advise the chair on spending and account balances. Coordinate reimbursements.

STUDENT WORKER SUPERVISION
Supervise hourly student workers (including recruitment, interviewing, and training), schedule work hours, assign tasks, monitor job performance, and provide feedback. Approve hours in Kronos.

FACULTY SUPPORT
Work with the chair to onboard new faculty, including connecting them with campus systems and resources. Work closely with the chair, search committees, and review/presentation committees for search/hiring and promotion/tenure processes. Work closely with the program coordinators and the chair to manage proposals (e.g., curriculum, programs). Train and Support faculty on academic advising (e.g. providing best practices, updating forms/paperwork, answering questions and assisting with petitions).
