Responsibilities

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Work with researcher to define the data they need from DFCI, affiliate and external systems to support cancer research.
  • Determine where required data is stored in clinical systems and profile data to assess quality and utility.
  • Develop specifications for the creation of analytic repositories in the DFCI Enterprise Data Warehouse for storing clinical and genomic data. Specifications will include direction on data integration, terminology use, standardization, and derived data element development.
  • Work with the DFCI data warehouse team, other informatics staff and researchers to develop processes ensure the quality and completeness of data in research repositories.
  • Collaborate with researchers and other informatics staff to develop data dictionaries, data models and other metadata that will enhance the usability of the data.
  • Provide data training and support to researchers and informatics staff.
  • Participate in the development of data governance policies and processes to ensure that data use complies with information security and privacy standards.
  • Responsible for the security and confidentiality of private medical and financial information.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate, collaborate, and drive discussions that enable consensus-based solutions with cross-functional teams including both clinicians, scientists, technical and non-technical/scientific/medical staff.
  • Excellent problem resolution and analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills including an ability to establish priorities, exercise good judgment, meet deadlines, and ensure issues are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Ability to adapt to frequent changes in priorities and demonstrate the ability to manage many moving pieces and projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to effectively conduct meetings, both formal and informal including departmental and clinical user meetings.
  • Self-motivated, possessing the ability and to learn quickly work under minimal supervision in complex environments.
  • Ability to consistently and ethically represent the interests and mission of DFCI and act on behalf of its current and future patients.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.

Qualifications

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, Biostatistics or research-related program required; graduate degree preferred.

  • 5+ years of experience performing data analysis in research analyses and visualization work in a healthcare research or clinical setting required.

  • Strong skills in analysis using SQL; experience with data analytic and visualization software, including SAS, R, SPSS, Tableau, Spotfire, or BusinessObjects, required.

  • Strong knowledge of data housed in electronic medical records, cancer registries, and other healthcare systems as well as medical terminologies, controlled vocabularies, ontologies, HIPAA regulations, and industry standards is required.  Knowledge of Oncology data and related areas strongly preferred.
