Job Description

Summary

The Department of Natural Sciences is seeking applicants for part-time instructor positions to
staff laboratory and lecture sections of introductory physics during the Winter 2023 term. The
3-hour laboratory sessions meet once per week during the term. Lecture sections meet twice per
week for two hours. There are opportunities for lecture instruction in calculus-based electricity
and magnetism (PHYS 151) for qualified candidates with relevant teaching experience.
Laboratory staffing needs include sections in the calculus or algebra-based courses in mechanics
and/or electricity-and-magnetism. Please consult the Physics Discipline Chair, Nicholas Licata
(licata@umich.edu), for details. The laboratory instructors work closely with a course’s lecturer
and lead instructor who sets the schedule of laboratory experiments. The term begins Thursday,
January 5; the last day of class is Tuesday, April 18. The online course catalog, found at

consulted for course descriptions of the algebra-based (PHYS 125/126) and calculus-based

Qualifications

The applicant must have a Masters or Ph.D. degree in physics or a closely related field.
Preference will be shown to those with teaching experience at the college level.
