If so, we are looking for someone like you to join our team at APL!

 

We are seeking creative materials science and chemistry interns to help us grow new projects and mature existing ones in fields of materials science, polymer chemistry, mechanical engineering, additive manufacturing, machine learning, environmental testing, or microelectronics. As a member of our team, you'll contribute to research that will pave the way for real-world impact! You will join our hardworking team of scientists and engineers who want to expand these diverse fields. We are passionate about building new and exciting solutions for our sponsors. As a materials science and chemistry Intern at APL you will…

  • Work collaboratively with other APL staff to support and conduct materials research. Responsibilities to include sample preparation, preparing and mixing formulations, data manipulation and analysis, experimental planning and execution, participation in problem solving.
  • Communicate daily with project teams to support programmatic needs, participate in discussion of ideas, options and approaches, and report work progress in both oral and written form.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Are an undergraduate student in Material Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Additive Manufacturing or other closely related field.
  • Have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0/4.0.
  • Can demonstrate that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. All staff members must provide proof of full vaccination or have an approved medical or religious accommodation by their start date.
  • To access APL’s facilities and networks, US Citizenship is required, subject to applicable laws.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you…

  • Are a graduate student in Material Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Additive Manufacturing or other closely related field.
  • Have previous laboratory experience with materials research and understanding of how to utilize published resources for research, and good hands-on skills.
  • Currently pursuing a MS or PhD in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or a related field.
