Job Description

EVENT OPERATIONS COORDINATOR, Institute Affairs, to collaboratively manage, plan, implement, and evaluate a wide variety of events for MIT Institute Events. Will be responsible for tactical and logistical details such as audience management, security arrangements, individual event budgets and vendor contracts, liaising with catering services and venues, and acting decisively as manager on duty; coordinating events--ranging from lectures, meetings, receptions, and dinners to large events such as commencement and campus-wide community events--from conceptualization through evaluation; liaising with staff across the Institute, volunteers, caterers, onsite vendors, and external agencies; and providing back-up for tent and venue oversight, event registration, and space approvals as part of the Institute Events’ space management team.  

REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree; at least five years’ combined event planning, operations, and public relations experience, preferably in higher education; ability to collaborate, work independently, communicate tactfully, and manage several projects simultaneously with minimal supervision; discretion; initiative; good judgment; proficiency with MIT’s electronic business environment; excellent interpersonal; service orientation; meticulous attention to detail; proficiency with MS Office, FileMaker Pro, Zoom meeting management, and Slack; knowledge of or ability to learn Adobe Creative Suite and SmartDraw or similar CAD program. Position involves extensive time working on a screen, attending in-person meetings, and participating in onsite event management.  PREFERRED:  knowledge of MIT and functional experience with project management software, SAP, and space reservations systems such as EMS.  Job #22153-8

Business hours offer some flexibility to work from home, with overtime, weekend, and evening hours.
