Communications and Program Officer

Job Description

COMMUNICATIONS AND PROGRAM OFFICER, Institute Affairs, to serve as public information officer and point person for events and programs organized by Institute Events, including commencement, lectures, and dedications. Will collaborate with colleagues to identify objectives and audiences, integrate information regarding event plans, and strategize communications for events and programs of Institute-wide significance.  Will also create, write, or edit Institute Events-related materials (i.e., remarks, speaking points, and announcements) on behalf of senior officers and others; be responsible for schedules, runs of show, and staging information; and maintain website content and other public information.  Other responsibilities include managing the production of print, electronic, and video collateral for events and programs (e.g., posters, programs, and brochures; invitations; and instructions for event participants); collaboratively select service providers and prepare proposals; and serve as event manager when needed and as a resource to colleagues Institute-wide.  

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED:  bachelor’s degree; at least five years of professional experience; writing, proofreading, event programming, and supervisory experience; excellent facilitation skills; ability to collaborate and influence diplomatically; facility with digital communication tools, Adobe Creative Suite, Drupal CMS, MS Office, and Zoom meeting/webinar management; and clear and effective communication skills within the electronic business environment.  The position involves extensive time working on a screen, attending in-person meetings, and onsite event management.  PREFERRED:  familiarity with MIT systems work in higher education or non-profit, focus on project management and a holistic understanding of a research university are desirable. Study of journalism, literature, or humanities is preferred. Job #22154-8

Business hours offer some flexibility to work from home, with overtime, weekend, and evening hours.
