Job Description

Green River College's student body is made up of approximately 41% Academic Transfer students, 34% Professional-Technical, 15% Adult Basic Education, 3% Applied Bachelor degrees. Green River College has four campuses, including the main campus in Auburn, with satellite campuses in Kent, downtown Auburn, and Enumclaw. Green River programs serve high school graduates, Running Start students (dual enrollment in local high schools and the college), those seeking retraining for the workforce, international students, students learning English, and Continuing Education students. Green River's service areas are increasingly ethnically diverse, comprising African Americans, African immigrants, Asian Americans, Asians, Latinx, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders, and Middle Eastern Americans, among other communities.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Full-time faculty members are committed to teaching a broad range of science courses using various methods and modes of instruction to support student engagement and promote student success. We seek an additional team member who can adapt instructional methods to meet the needs of our diverse students who come to GRC from a wide span of cultural and experiential backgrounds and have a variety of professional and personal interests.

 

Position Responsibilities

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • A strong desire to teach and a great enjoyment of teaching.
  • Willingness to teach a wide range of Anatomy & Physiology and Microbiology courses.
  • Demonstrated experience, expertise, cultural competencies, and commitment to equity in working with students, communities, and colleagues from diverse backgrounds and identities.
  • Computer skills competent for an educational environment and ability to continue to learn new technologies.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills in the classroom and with other professionals.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, colleagues, staff, and administrators as well as the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to effectively contribute in student advising, curriculum development and revision, collaboration with colleagues, and participation in other college and division professional activities.
  • Ethics, integrity, and sound judgment.

 

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in the Biological sciences.
  • Minimum two years' full-time equivalent teaching in anatomy/physiology or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff, both orally and in writing.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ability to teach Human Anatomy & Physiology
  • Interest in teaching life science disciplines such as Cellular Biology and/or Microbiology
  • Demonstrated ability to foster an effective learning environment in a college classroom.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate students effectively in a college classroom.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, colleagues, staff, and administrators.
  • Demonstrated interest and experience in the use of technology in the classroom.
  • Experience in using a variety of instructional methods to facilitate student learning.
  • Familiarity and willingness to teach with different teaching modalities including face-to-face, hybrid, and online.
  • Ability to teach effectively using student-centered active learning and critical thinking approaches, and/or inquiry-based learning approaches
  • Demonstrated commitment to continued development of successful teaching strategies.
  • Collaborating with colleagues on projects and/or experience serving on college committees
