Job Description

The Harold Walter Siebens School of Business at Buena Vista University (BVU) seeks a dynamic teacher who is committed to excellence in undergraduate business education. The successful candidate will teach a variety of management and entrepreneurship courses in the undergraduate curriculum in the management and entrepreneurship programs consistent with the candidate’s credentials and interests. This position offers the opportunity to serve as a lead faculty member in these programs and work collaboratively with the Director of the Lamberti Center for Rural Entrepreneurship to develop hands-on educational opportunities for students and aspiring entrepreneurs. The position is flexible either as a tenure-track or a term contract position, depending on the successful candidate’s credentials. The start date is August 2023.

The Business major in the Harold Walter Siebens School of Business is designed to develop in students strong analytical, interpersonal, and professional skills grounded in a comprehensive understanding of contemporary business. The Siebens School is committed to transforming students into exemplary business leaders and entrepreneurs by immersing them in a challenging business environment through coursework, simulations, internships, participation in projects through the business incubator, travel opportunities, attendance at professional conferences, and partnering with faculty on research.

The Harold Walter Siebens Forum and the Harold Walter Siebens School of Business recently completed a $15.1 million-dollar renovation project to include state of the art classrooms, trading room, and refreshed office, gathering and dining spaces. The Harold Walter Siebens School of Business is an endowed school whose generous donors make it possible to support excellent value-added learning and professional development opportunities for students and faculty.

Essential Functions:

  • Teach 12 credit hours per fall and spring semesters
  • Deliver an innovative problem-based curriculum in management, entrepreneurship, and general education
  • Work to incorporate experiential learning opportunities and collaboration with the Lamberti Center for Rural Entrepreneurship and industry professionals into classes and the student experience.
  • Practice quality interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Interact effectively with students and colleagues, function as an independent professional and work effectively as a team member
  • Possess ability and willingness to work with diverse populations
  • Supervise, mentor, and advise students and student organizations
  • Remain active and current in the field through professional development activities
  • Able to effectively engage in University service such as committee work, participation in departmental projects, and academic advising
  • Assist in student recruitment visits to the University
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Entrepreneurship, Management, or a closely related field (non-tenure track).
  • Ability to teach a variety of courses in the business management and entrepreneurship curricula
  • Ability to teach, advise, and guide the academic and professional development of students.
  • Ability to build connections with professionals in the industry and work with the business and entrepreneurial community.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • D. or D.B.A. in management, entrepreneurship, business administration, or closely related field (tenure track or non-tenure track, depending on candidate’s qualifications and interests).
  • Experience teaching management and entrepreneurship at the post-secondary/university level
  • Experience working with a business incubator.
  • Experience teaching courses in face-to-face and online settings
  • Relevant professional experience in industry, entrepreneurship, and/or small business development.

Pay: $70,458.00 - $98,123.00 per year
