Job Description

Eastern Shore Community College is located on the beautiful Eastern Shore of Virginia with incomparable access to the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean, quiet vacation spots, excellent fishing and hunting, fresh produce and organic products, a thriving community of artists and artisans, a rich history, NASA launch pads, aquaculture and agriculture research centers, and a country culture of open distances, but neighbors who help each other out. We provide the 45,000 residents on Accomack and Northampton Counties access to excellent career and technical, college transfer, workforce, and continuing education programs. We serve nearly 1,000 learners a semester with an employee base of full-time and part-time faculty and staff of over 50. Our mission is to empower learners to enhance the quality of life for themselves and their communities. This is rooted in our culture of YES! which stands for Your Eastern Shore. Our YES! culture is the drive behind all that we do at ESCC. Our YES! culture of hospitality begins by asking the question, how can we help you? YES! is simple and it is very personal. You determine your YES! Our YES! embraces the college and the larger shore community as residents, students, staff, and faculty.

Eastern Shore Community College is a member of the Virginia Community College System. The College serves the residents of Accomack County and Northampton County as a two-year institution of higher learning. Operating under policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Eastern Shore Community College Board, the college is financed primarily with state funds, supplemented by contributions from the two counties and the Eastern Shore Community College Foundation.

The VCCS Chancellor’s College Success Coach Initiative is intended to increase student persistence and attainment of success measures aligned with Achieve 2015 and beyond through the use of college success coaches. This initiative leverages the unique strengths and success strategies of ESCC and promotes opportunities for cross-college information exchange.

The College Success Coach is responsible for working with a target population of college students to provide direct support and enhance their success in college. Interventions are aimed at fostering persistence leading to success-intermediate success and ultimately, graduation, transfer, and/or a career readiness certificate. This position communicates with faculty and staff in multiple college departments to ensure students have access to resources and support necessary for completion of their academic program. This position works with others to capture relevant data on student communications, interactions and success strategies. The newly hired positions will advance the College’s One Door initiative by being cross-trained and serving multiple units of the college. Some success coaches are responsible for student engagement through mentoring programs and coordinating tutors embedded into courses.
