Job Description

The Department of Physics at Oklahoma State University invites applications for a tenure track assistant professor position in theoretical high energy physics. We encourage candidates with a proven track record of research in all areas of particle physics phenomenology within and beyond the Standard Model to apply. We especially encourage applications from candidates who can strengthen and complement the existing research program in high energy theory. The high energy physics group at Oklahoma State University consists of two theoreticians, three experimentalists, several postdocs, and numerous students. The theorists work closely with the experimentalists, who are actively involved in the ATLAS experiment. Details of the high energy physics research program at OSU can be found at https://osuhep.okstate.edu/. The successful candidate is expected to attract extramural research funding, publish scholarly articles, and teach effectively at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.

OSU is committed to increasing the diversity of its faculty (currently 25% of the Physics Department faculty are from underrepresented groups). The Department of Physics welcomes applications from outstanding candidates, who, through their research, teaching, and/or service will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the department. A Ph.D. in Physics or a closely related field is required, as well as the promise of excellence in teaching and the ability to mentor students including those from underrepresented groups.

As a Carnegie-R1 comprehensive research university, OSU offers ample opportunities to the successful candidate to develop a research-intensive career. In addition to high energy physics, the physics department has strong research programs in atomic, molecular and optical physics, biological physics, condensed matter physics and radiation physics. The Department of Physics is part of the College of Arts and Sciences, OSU’s largest and most diverse college, which is home to 24 academic departments with vibrant programs in the arts, humanities, social sciences, mathematics, and natural sciences.

The appointment is at the Assistant Professor level, with an expected start date of August 15, 2023. Candidates should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, list of publications, brief research and teaching plans, and arrange for three letters of recommendation. Applications should be submitted via Academic Jobs Online at https://academicjobsonline.org/ . Review of applications will begin on January 1, 2023 and will continue until the position is filled. All positions are contingent upon available funding. Any questions should be directed to Dr. K.S. Babu (babu@okstate.edu) or Dr. Dorival Gonçalves (dorival@okstate.edu).
