Postdoctoral Fellow to support the Snow laboratory in the Department of Pharmacology at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD.
HJF is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow is Responsible for initiating and carrying out research projects in collaboration with a research team. Pursuits research along a focused line of inquiry and has a manuscript in development.
Responsibilities:
  • Leads efforts in designing, developing, executing, and implementing biochemical and cell biological experiments related to two funded research projects entitled (1) “Genome sequencing, transcriptomics, and variant functional analyses of subjects with inborn errors of immunity and phenocopies in the Military Health System.”, and (2) “Temporal and Metabolic Regulation of Restimulation-Induced Cell Death (RICD) in Human T Cells”.
  • Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories to potential inventions and products.
  • Performs independent laboratory research utilizing experimental protocols which will involve specialized procedures including: processing human blood products for isolation of peripheral blood mononuclear cells, purification of specific blood cell populations, cell culture and stimulation, nucleic acid extraction/purification/transfection, RT-PCR, molecular cloning and site-directed mutagenesis, preparation of whole cell and/or fractionated lysates, immunoprecipitation and Western blotting, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence and confocal microscopy, animal injections, bleedings and immunizations, and other techniques as needed/required by the laboratory.
  • Collects and handles samples and keeps detailed records of experiments.
  • Processes and interprets experimental data, and prepares accurate and timely research reports.
  • Assists with the preparation of data for presentations at scientific meetings and for publication in journals.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Subject knowledge and expertise in immunology and cell biology as reflected by publications in appropriate peer-reviewed scientific journals.
  • Competence in all routine areas of modern cellular and molecular biology including mammalian cell culture, cell transfection, recombinant DNA technology, and immunoblotting.
Physical Capabilities:
  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.
  • Intricate work with hands.

Qualifications:
Work Environment
  • This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.
Education and Experience
  • Doctoral degree.
  • Minimum of 0-5 years experience required.
