Job Summary

Facilitate the efficient consultation, organization, timely physical setup, hosting and post event wrap up of all events; while assisting in maintaining a safe environment at the Student Center.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

  • Open the Student Center building and event spaces for daily events.
  • Secure the building by locking both internal and external doors when not in use.
  • Check all spaces before clients have arrived, ensuring that setup meets prescribed expectations. Set up audio/visual equipment when necessary and other amenities as outlined in the daily schedule, ensuring that all Conferencing services are in place.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve client equipment and setup compatibility issues.
  • Provide deliberative resolution in time of either client or event conflict.
  • Secure the building at night by locking all doors and ensuring that all staff and clients have exited the buildings.
  • Perform timely event setups, including furnishings, audio-visual equipment, computer equipment and Internet connectivity.
  • Provide direct customer service through regular interaction with off/on-campus clients, staff, faculty and students, in a multiple event environment.
  • Anticipate client needs by being aware of potential conflicts or last minute setup/equipment needs; facilitating client needs throughout their event.
  • Ensure client compliance with SLCC Policies & Procedures and Federal, State and Local law and fire codes.
  • Assist conference clients by providing information and organizational consulting on setup, equipment, displays, flow of traffic and signage for diverse types of events. Assist clients, staff, faculty and students with information and directions.
  • Do a regular maintenance check of all conference and other, spaces to ensure appropriate upkeep, and return of unneeded equipment to proper storage.
  • Cover full days or other shifts when there are vacation requests or illness.
  • Prioritize all daily activities, communicating any necessary event changes or modification information to supervisor and/or co-workers, checking the weekly events schedule regularly for updates and additions.

Minimum Qualifications

-High school diploma or equivalent.
-One (1) year of part time employment in event setup, facilitation, customer service or equivalent.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Strong customer service orientation and communication skills.
Knowledge of general office procedures.
Knowledge of Internet (including setup of Internet access).
Ability to handle sensitive client information with discretion while maintaining confidentiality
Ability to handle conflict resolution with calm and deliberation.
Ability to set priorities and to organize tasks.
Ability to operate office and A/V equipment.
Ability to lift and move 50 lbs consistently.
Maintain professional, positive attitude and neat appearance
Ability to grow, adapt, take direction and work independently when necessary.
Interpersonal, problem solving, and decision making skills.
Reliable and punctual. Attention to details.
Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.
