Assistant Director of Career and Transfer Services

Job Description

The Assistant Director will set the vision and direction for the Office of Career and Transfer Services, and will actively collaborate with office staff, college staff and faculty, and external partners and agencies to move toward realizing that vision. The Assistant Director of Career and Transfer Services is responsible for the development, implementation, and overall direction of career and transfer services and projects aimed at increasing student success and access to QCC programs. Specific areas of concentration include: readiness and placement (co-op, employment, and job preparation), transfer services, and the generation and updating of articulations agreements from both internal and external agencies and institutions; development of career and transfer resources; and providing professional development to QCC staff on above topics.

Responsible for the training, hiring, supervision, and evaluation of full and part-time staff working in Office of Career and Transfer Services.

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervises and oversees the Office of Career and Transfer Services program operations including establishing departmental goals, priorities, and strategic plans.
  • Manages area cost center and budgets.
  • Collaborate with marketing and communications department to build College awareness of the office services and programs, and to direct customers (students, staff, and faculty) to the office.
  • Integrating the principles and best practices associated with diversity, equity and inclusion in career planning and placement and transfer services to ensure effective service delivery and student success.
  • Integrate assessment and evaluation processes into all related tasks within the Office of Transfer and Career Services.
  • Oversee all placement related activities including the development of employer relations, job and co-op advertisement and student placement, the management of an on-line placement network, and on and off-campus recruiting events.
  • Oversee large-scale transfer initiatives in collaboration with area deans and faculty.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty, deans and office of institutional research to ensure that options reflect current industry needs and QCC program competencies and student learning outcomes.
  • Represent the College and attend external meetings and events to develop and strengthen partnerships with universities, employers, and co-op site supervisors.
  • Supervise the development of potential placement opportunities for students with appropriate business and industry representatives, with an emphasis on the placement of student special populations. Work with office of community engagement and academic divisions to share and receive contact information.
  • Ensure all operations of the Office meet local, state, and accreditation guidelines.
  • Develop and implement a range of placement activities and resources designed to promote the awareness of non-traditional options to male and female students such as career panels, career focus web site with role models/mentors, professional development for advising and admissions staff, and specialized outreach to non-traditional student populations.
  • Identifies and promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion related activities across campus. Collaborates with college departments on the integration and delivery of inclusion related activities including the dissemination of materials.
  • Collaborate with the college's office of disability services regarding the specific needs of non-traditional by gender students with disabilities.
  • Research, develop, and promote service learning options for QCC students, including the potential awarding of credit for service learning.
  • Investigate, evaluate, and develop potential incoming articulation agreements and processes with appropriate educational organizations. Collaborate with deans on potential articulation agreements.
  • Track, monitor, standardize, update and provide reports on all incoming articulation agreements.
  • Communicate final incoming articulation agreements to appropriate college offices.
  • Maintain currency in best practices and pertinent information from relevant professional organizations such as Cooperative Education and Internship Association, National Association of Colleges and Employers, National Career Development Association, National Alliance for Partners in Equity, Work4Women, US Department of Labor Women's Bureau, National Student Clearinghouse, Campus Compact, MA Department of Higher Education, New England Transfer Association, MassTransfer Steering Committee, New England Association for College Admission Counseling, NACADA transfer branch and related organizations.
  • Assure integrity and consistency of co-op and job placement processes.
  • Work with the Executive Director Advising, Testing, Career and Transfer Services to (1) develop specific student learning outcomes (SLOs) for programs, services, and activities from the office and (2) develop a comprehensive assessment of these SLOs.
  • Develop and implement a process for and practice of continuous improvement.
  • Actively supporting the teaching and learning process; practicing honesty and integrity in and out of the classroom; striving to create and support a student-centered environment while fostering academic innovation and excellence.
  • Working actively with other areas of the college to ensure a spirit of college-wide collaboration, collegiality, civility, and teamwork. Respects the function of dissent in an academic institution while advancing a collegial atmosphere of campus collaboration.
  • Embracing the ideals of diversity and inclusiveness and supporting the equal rights of all people by advancing the understanding and appreciation of differences including age, race, gender, ability, religious convictions, socio-economic status, ethnic heritage, or sexual orientation.
  • Providing flexible, responsive and high-quality service to all, be they students, community, or staff, and continuously assessing processes and procedures and revising accordingly.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:


Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree.
  • 3-5 years experience in transfer and/or career services in higher education.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining professional relationships with external partners, such as other higher education institutions, employers and professional organizations.
  • Strong knowledge and use of technology applications, including use of an established student information system.
  • Excellent communication and training skills.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Accounting
  • Experience in Higher Education financial operations
  • Experience with integrated systems.
  • Experience with system report writers.
  • Proficiency in both oral and written communication skills.
