Siloam Health is a dynamic, multi-site healthcare organization that has served Nashville’s uninsured and underserved—especially the immigrant and refugee communities-since 1991. Today, nearly 90% of our patients and clients are born outside the United States, representing more than 80 homelands and speaking more than 70 languages. A faith-based, religiously chartered organization with a budget of $6 million, Siloam is the second largest charitably funded nonprofit health center in the state of Tennessee and has played a leadership role in Tennessee’s refugee medical screening program for almost two decades. Our work is accomplished by 65 staff, over 400 volunteers annually, and dozens of partner churches, hospital systems, and other organizations. Medical care is offered at two locations: a comprehensive primary care clinic located in Melrose and a walk-in, limited primary care clinic located in Antioch. Community Health Workers and volunteers through our Nashville Neighbors program attend to the social determinants of health by promoting self-efficacy, health literacy, and health system navigation skills among local immigrant and refugee communities. Siloam clinicians also regularly mentor dozens of students and residents annually through custom coursework, clinical rotations and internships.

From Siloam Health’s Charter:

“The purposes for which the corporation is organized are:

  • To share the love and compassion of Jesus Christ with those who are physically ill, spiritually searching, emotionally strained and financially impoverished;
  • To establish a church-based primary health care clinic and to offer a ministry of healing to the community in a manner that recognizes and addresses both the spiritual and the medical dimensions of disease and suffering;
  • To provide the highest quality medical and pastoral care to those in need without discrimination on the basis of income, race, faith, gender or nationality;
  • To provide health counseling to the community;
  • To provide opportunities for service and training for a corps of volunteer workers;
  • To provide the governance, setting, facilities, and equipment required to support and to direct the health care ministry;
  • To provide a focus of unified ministry in which other churches and groups may combine resources and skills and engage in a cooperative evangelical effort;
  • Otherwise to operate exclusively for charitable purposes by receiving donations and contributions of any and all kinds and by holding and managing such donations and contributions for charitable purposes; and
  • To engage in any lawful business not inconsistent with the provisions of this Charter.”


The President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is responsible for the successful leadership and management of Siloam Health according to the strategic direction set by the Board of Directors. This leader serves as an ex officio member of a 20-person governance board of directors, which meets quarterly to act on proposals and work done by seven committees, and directly supervises an Executive Team consisting of a Chief Operating Officer (COO), Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Chief Development Officer (CDO), and the Chief Community Health Officer (CCHO).


Casts vision and strategic direction for the organization

  • Embodies and promotes Siloam’s mission and core values. A deep love for Jesus Christ and a demonstrated commitment to the Kingdom values He modeled is this leader’s foundation.
  • Develops and implements the organization’s strategic plan in conjunction with the board of directors.
  • Communicates to all stakeholders a compelling vision of growth, outreach and effective services at Siloam Health.
  • Looks ahead, monitoring opportunities, trends, and threats, both internally and externally.

Cultivates and leads a cohesive, missional and diverse team of servant leaders

  • Directs, equips, coaches, resources, and holds accountable the executive leadership team to run the organization and its programs through their respective staff.
  • Ensures and oversees leadership development opportunities for senior staff and management.
  • Works closely with board leadership to engage and support a committed board of directors.
  • Personally champions and cultivates a prayerful and gospel-centered culture at Siloam at both the staff and board levels.
  • Empowers team members to make decisions in light of Siloam’s mission, values, and strategic priorities, while orienting them toward long-term vision and solutions instead of “quick fixes.”

Oversees the development, evaluation, and improvement of Siloam programs

  • Works with the CMO and CCHO to ensure excellence, legality, and quality in all clinical, community health, and educational programs.
  • Works with the COO to ensure that operations maximize efficiencies and mission impact for the benefit of patients and communities served.
  • Works with the COO and CCHO to ensure equitable and inclusive HR policies and procedures exist that promote the flourishing of a diverse, multinational staff team.
  • Works closely with the CFO to ensure good stewardship and internal controls for Siloam’s financial resources as well as regular, clear financial and risk assessment reporting to the board.

Effectively develops and stewards resources to fulfill Siloam’s mission

  • Works with the board and CDO to set fund development strategy and goals, while actively directing and/or participating in fundraising efforts.
  • Works closely with the board and CFO to develop, manage, and monitor annual operating budgets in line with the strategic direction set by the board of directors.
  • Works with the CFO and other executive staff to increase earned revenues and operational efficiencies where possible to ensure the long-term sustainability of Siloam.

Serves as an ambassador for Siloam and its patients in the broader community

  • Serves, along with the board chair, as the organization’s primary spokesperson.
  • Ensures that Siloam is represented at relevant community, state and national gatherings, associations and professional groups.
  • Develops and maintains key relationships with individual and organizational partners—churches, health care providers, businesses, universities, funders, and other nonprofits—that enable Siloam to fulfill its mission and vision.
  • Enhances Siloam’s profile as a thought/industry leader in mission relevant domains through leadership positions, writing, speaking engagements, and participation in strategic events.
  • Oversees the planning and implementation of communication strategies by the CDO that keep stakeholders informed of Siloam’s needs, goals, and successes.


Education and Experience


  • Undergraduate university degree
  • Five or more years of progressive management of teams and executive leadership experience in health care and/or nonprofit organizations
  • Experience in fundraising and development skills needed to ensure charitable funding
  • Knowledge of current community challenges and opportunities relevant to the mission of Siloam
  • Working knowledge of human resources, financial management, and project management
  • Computer literacy and familiarity with MS Office tools


  • Advanced degree in health professions or a related field, or comparable work experience
  • Experience working in a cross-cultural setting and/or bilingual proficiency
  • Experience in mission-related advocacy

  • Clear Communications: Comfortably serve as a communicator-in-chief—clearly, concisely, and effectively using the written and spoken word to lead teams and engage stakeholders.
  • Community Connectivity: Cultivate and utilize a deep personal and professional network on behalf of Siloam Health and the vulnerable communities it serves.

Special Conditions of Employment

Relocation to the Nashville, TN area if not currently a resident.

The President/CEO works a standard work week but additionally will often work evenings, weekends, and overtime hours to accommodate activities such as Board meetings and representing Siloam at public events.

The President/CEO will report to the Siloam Health Board of Directors.
