Job Summary

The Prospect Researcher is primarily responsible for the building of donor and prospect research services at UNCF to support the Office of the President and Capital Campaign departments; providing information on key individuals, corporations, foundations, and other prospects and donors as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements research strategies in conjunction with the AVP and Campaign Office.
  • Creates and researches donor profiles and lists for research requests.
  • Proactively conducts research on current donors and prospective donors.
  • Makes detailed observations, analyzes data, and interprets results.
  • Utilizes established prospect and donor research techniques to compile and analyze data.
  • Writes prospect and donor reports and profiles; documents research outcomes; creates and analyzes lists detailing procedures, outcomes, and observations.
  • Liaises with senior management and directors in the Campaign Office, Office of the President, Development, and Major Gifts Departments to identify, schedule, and implement research requests; gathers, collates, disseminates donor and prospect trend information.
  • Inputs information and updates data in the Prospect Research module in the general database.
  • Maintains and improves quality of internal donor data.
  • Secures materials at least 72 hours in advance of scheduled meetings.
  • Updates and maintains donor and prospect records on an ongoing basis.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college, university in English, Journalism, Library Sciences; Master’s degree preferred.
  • At least 5 to 7 years of related work experience in non-profit prospect research.
  • Knowledge of O365 with advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite, notably Word and Excel. Must be proficient in mail merges and correcting source or cell errors.
  • Experience utilizing research engines, i.e., Nexis, WealthEngine, iWave Pro, D&B, Hoovers.
  • Knowledgeable of Raiser’s Edge NXT or similar donor database software.
  • Experience participating and hosting video conferencing platforms.
  • Goal-oriented and passionate about education equity.
  • Ability to collect and research data; Design workflows and procedures.
  • Strong analytical skills; gather and analyze information skillfully.
  • Ability to locate and interpret financial principles and biographical information from a variety of sources.
  • Knowledgeable of internet search engines.
  • Competency in a variety of computer applications, including database, spreadsheet and word processing programs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to write concise research documents.
  • High degree of customer service skills.
  • Multi-task with high levels of accuracy on concurrent projects.
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential material in a responsible manner.
  • Works independently and as a team player.

Work Environment

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $64,500.00 - $78,500.00 per year
