Part-time Instructors provide instructional duties for the College in their respective areas of expertise. They report to the department chair within the discipline and do not have any supervisory responsibilities. Responsibilities include instruction, student assessment, and other related instructional duties. Instructional delivery may include face-to-face, hybrid, and online. Classes may be held days, evenings, and weekends.
 
The instructor must be patient and respectful, while also providing their expectations for what is considered acceptable work. The instructor must display dedication to the class as well as the goals of the program.
 
This posting will be used to fill multiple part-time Instructor vacancies. Finalist must be willing to make Colorado their primary workplace, including for online courses.
 
The primary purpose of the Criminal Justice Adjunct Professor will be to teach introductory and intermediate Criminal Justice courses. The Criminal Justice Adjunct Professor will also demonstrate leadership within the department, pathway, and college, respectively.

Payment is based on the credit hour/contact hour and class ratio as assigned to you by the department chair. RRCC starts at $952.68/credit hour.

 

Description of Position

Perform instruction-related duties, responsibilities, and program direction in accordance with the philosophy, policies, and procedures of the Colorado Community College System and Red Rocks Community College. A faculty assignment is comprised of two parts, one being at least one-half duties as a teacher, which may include program coordination/development and the other is professional development and service obligations.  

Classroom Instruction:

Required to meet all class periods and start and end classes promptly. Teach assigned curriculum and make use of required texts and materials. Provide students with a complete syllabus on the first day of class that includes information on course description, objectives, assignments, grading policies, and contact information. Provide data on student attendance (no-shows, last day of attendance, etc.), promptly. Use technology to facilitate learning including meeting the required minimum standards for the use of the College learning management system Desire2Learn (D2L).

Student Assessment:

Maintain updated and accurate grading records in D2L and submit all final grades by the due date in the college student information system, Banner. Provide consistent and timely feedback to students regarding progress and grades on assignments.

Planning:

Prepare for each class meeting and consider learning strategies that address diverse learning styles and a diverse community college student population. Class content and assessment methods should relate to course objectives.

Communication:

Respond timely to students and RRCC staff every 24-48 hours during the class term and for at least one week after grades are submitted. Attend department staff meetings throughout the semester as scheduled. Provide updates to the department chair.   After gaining more experience, adjunct instructors may be expected to share in broader department coordination duties on a collaborative basis.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Criminal Justice, Law Degree, Political Science or a closely related field.
  • At least two thousand (2,000) hours of verified occupational experience in the discipline within the last seven (7) years. The institutional knowledge of a former criminal justice professional does not change substantially over a period of 15 years of relevant experience, and therefore tested occupational experience is permitted over that time period, as long as the applicant has been involved in teaching, working as a volunteer, reserve, mentor, or some other related field, during the previous 15 years.
  • Current CTE credentials 
Required knowledge, skills, abilities:
  •  Knowledge and/or experience with curriculum and teaching strategies to meet the needs of diverse populations.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with the use of instructional technology including classroom application distance learning.
  • Evidence of incorporating technology into classroom instruction.
  • Experience/familiarity with assessment of student learning, instructional effectiveness and/or adult learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups of people.
  • Problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Displays a high level of initiative, effort, and commitment toward completing assignments in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office products, D2L, and other computer software as necessary.
Please note that employment with the Colorado Community College System is limited to in-state residents. Selected candidates will be need to be, or be willing to become, state residents before employment can begin.
