Vice President, Financial and Administrative Services

Job Description

As a member of the President’s advisory team, the position has primary responsibility for finance, budget, procurement, inventory, technology services, research/analytics/data systems, facilities management, capital outlay, auxiliary services, campus safety, emergency planning & threat assessment management, and general administration. This position actively supports the strategic planning process. The VP of Financial and Administrative Services serves as the chief financial and administrative advisor to the President and oversees the institutional processes for operational and capital budgets, financial systems and policies, and compliance with applicable federal and state regulations and laws.

Additional responsibilities for operating this division
  • Direct the development of all college budgets and manage fiscal accountability
  • Oversee renovation and maintenance of facilities necessary to accomplish the College’s mission
  • Provide guidance on FOIA requests, review of affiliation agreements, and other legal matters
  • Direct auxiliary services such as the fitness center, food services, bookstore, etc.
  • Serves as treasurer to the foundation board
  • Serves as the administrative liaison for designated college governance committees
  • Serves on various boards and committees as directed by the President
  • Manages or coordinates multi-stakeholder groups for special projects undertaken by the college
  • Position is designated as sensitive under VA Code and a fingerprint based criminal history check will be required of the finalist candidate
  • Position is designated under the VA Ethics Council as requiring a financial statement of interests as a condition of employment

Compensation and Benefits
The compensation for the position will commensurate with education and experience; however, the hiring range for this role is $130,000-$155,000 per year. The position is an administrative role and as such is eligible for the benefits package offered by the Commonwealth of Virginia for state agencies and the Virginia Community College System. Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in an appropriate discipline (such as business administration, public administration or architecture/engineering)
  • Demonstrated senior management experience involving fiscal accountability, facilities, and auxiliary services
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead and develop staff
  • Experience working collaboratively with diverse groups
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to think creatively, strategically, and proactively
  • Demonstrated ability to sustain good relationships with professional colleagues

 

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with capital projects and facilities management
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices for internal controls
  • General understanding of Information Technology Security practices
  • Knowledge of and experience in general operating principles and practices in higher education
  • Understanding of the community college system and its mission
