Position

 

The College and Career Pathways Navigator is a true champion at Renton Technical College who serves and advocates for College and Career Pathways students (ESL, GED, HS+, Bilingual HS+, and undecided students). The College and Career Pathways Navigator helps students to overcome any barriers from entry to enrollment and success. This full time classified, and overtime eligible position reports to the Dean of College & Career Pathways. This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement with representation by the Professional technical association union. The effectiveness of this role is based on both relationship-building with students/colleagues as well as a keen systematic and logistic awareness. This position is represented by Prof Tech. Applications received by Thursday, December 8th will receive priority consideration. This position will remain open until it is filled.

This role is responsible for understanding the needs of each student and adapting the structure of "intake" to best facilitate their enrollment into classes. The CCP Navigator has an in-depth and thorough knowledge of CCP processes and programming. As a result, they are a vital representative in college-wide meetings and initiatives to evaluate opportunities for merging with broader college systems and processes.

Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions Include

 

  • Demonstrate multicultural competence (including an awareness and understanding of historically disadvantaged populations) and create an educational and work environment that affirms commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Support the college's mission by creating a learning and work environment of mutual respect and fairness, while encouraging creative and critical thinking. Contribute to the appreciation of diversity and foster a climate of multicultural understanding.
  • Responsible for recruiting, onboarding, guiding, and providing wrap around support for all CCP students enrolled in the Transitional Studies program (ESL, GED, HS+, Bilingual HS+, etc).
  • Responds to inquiries utilizing multiple means of communication (i.e. text, email, phone call).
  • Contacts and meets with prospective, new and returning students to answer questions and provides information about admissions requirements for transitional studies students.
  • Works with and assists students in completing on-line admissions application.
  • Tracks student pipelines from inquiry to first semester of enrollment. This includes weekly follow-ups and enrollment monitoring.
  • Provides individual, one-on-one academic advising to CCP students on degree requirements and proper course selection.
  • Collaborates with various departments to assist CCP students in completing checklists items.
  • Host the CCP Zoom Room, a drop-in space for new and current students.
  • Assists with large and small group advisement presentations.
  • Participates in the delivery of campus tours.
  • Advises prospective students and families including traditional and non-traditional students about the admissions’ process.
  • Understands the institution’s interpretation of FERPA rules for the release of student information to faculty, parents, students, etc.
  • Makes referrals to appropriate resources necessary for student success.
  • Collaborates with RTC CCP faculty to maintain effective services to aid students engaged in various learning modalities (FLEX, In-Person, Online).
  • Provides guidance and assistance to CCP students to ensure a smooth retention to other areas of study at RTC.
  • Manages a caseload of prospects and applicants, generates and distributes pipeline reports via ctcLink.
  • Oversees staffing for the CCP Hub: train and supervise the Student Ambassador(s), arrange for extra staffing when needed, and plan transitions between quarters along with staffing and training.
  • Oversees weekly RTC Ready sessions: coordinate with library and LRCC, conduct the actual orientations, and arrange for adequate staffing.
  • Runs queries, tracks, and organizes data to make a data-informed recommendations to the CCP leadership team.
  • Participates in college committees and attend meetings about college-wide initiatives.
  • Other related duties, as assigned.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 

  • Demonstrated experience or participation with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working / learning environment.
  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution OR a combination of education and/or work experience in education or social services setting mentoring, coaching, counseling, or advising.
  • Prefer three years' experience in student services at a community or technical college.
  • Strong knowledge of RTC or higher education, including student and academic support resources, online systems, and registration procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience working with students who have unique barriers and assisting these students with their educational goals.
  • Superior technical skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office and database programs.
  • Preferred experience working with a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system and/or ctcLink (PeopleSoft) student software.
  • Availability for in-state travel for trainings and meetings.
  • Excellent customer service, communication and teamwork skills.
  • Demonstrated problem solving, analytical skills, flexibility and ability to accommodate multiple stakeholders with various interests and needs.
  • Strong planning and project management ability.
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in interpreting, reviewing and applying program specific policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, think critically and exercise independent judgment required.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote universal design and accessibility. Proficiency in (or ability to learn within 6 months of hire) the production of accessible content, whether print or electronic.
  • Strong attention to detail as well as experience maintaining accurate records, managing multiple tasks, and organizing work in order to meet changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to represent the college in a positive and professional manner, while using tact, discretion and courtesy.
  • Ability to speak a regionally top spoken language other than English is preferred (Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Somali, Chinese).


WORKING CONDITIONS: Regular work hours are Monday through Thursday from 11:00 am – 8:00 pm; hours may vary on Fridays. Duties primarily involve seated, computer workstation work, meetings in locations held throughout campus and offsite.
