Position Summary: The Research Assistant will work under regular supervision and assist in scientific research and contribute as directed. Research focus will be on data science for environmental use cases including disaster preparedness, response and recovery using data from satellites, unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) and ground sensor networks. Responsibilities include but are not limited to data science and the preparation of technical documents and scientific papers. The research assistant may also be involved with development of proposals for collaborations involving academia and industry for joint public-private initiatives to address key national challenges.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

• Satisfy USRA's non-profit mission by making a distinctive impact through scientific and technical accomplishments in the assigned projects.
  • Develop and customize data science software systems under the direction of a scientist.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical documents and scientific papers.
  • Assist in the development of oral presentations, including preparation of slides.
  • Performs a variety of duties in support of the research goals and objectives.
• Act safely, ethically, and in compliance with all laws, regulations, and USRA policies and procedures including:
  • Ensure the protection of intellectual property including submitting new technology disclosures and supporting patent applications.
  • Ensure export control compliance related to ITAR/EAR regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with all policies such as for timesheets and travel.
  • Complete all trainings as scheduled.

• Software development in Python and Javascript.
