Summary of Position

The Center for Young Children and Families at Plymouth State University is seeking an Early Childhood Associate Teacher who is committed, creative, intentional and reflective in their work with children and eager to grow their practices. They will work as part of a collaborative teaching team to assist in the design and implementation of engaging learning environments and play-based, constructivist curriculum that is responsive to children’s emergent interests and needs and demonstrates an anti-bias approach. We seek an educator who can support children in: developing a healthy sense of self in relationships with other people, collaborating and cooperating to solve problems, and engaging in strong and playful physical activity. They will use effective communication and interpersonal skills and demonstrate strength in developing relationships with children, peers, families and university students. They will strive to keep current with and utilize best practices in the field, serve as a model and support university student learning and use of these practices. The Early Childhood Associate Teacher will learn and utilize the Pyramid Model Framework and practices to promote and support social emotional competence and will demonstrate an understanding of and utilize positive approaches to guidance and discipline. They will be expected to demonstrate high professional and ethical standards. This position runs for ten months of the year (late August to mid June). Will perform other related duties and projects, as assigned.

Duty/Responsibility

1. Assist lead teacher in the planning and implementing engaging and safe learning environments and a play-based, constructivist curriculum, in keeping with the philosophy, values and goals of the Center for Young Children and Families, NH State Licensing guidelines and professional and ethical standards.

2. Assist in the collection of assessment data and creation of documentation as required.

3. Develop and maintain trusting relationships and open communication with families through frequent verbal and written and electronic communication and occasional special events.

4. Oversee, model for, provide feedback and support to university students who work or complete practical experiences at the Center.

5. Learn about, understand and utilize the Pyramid Model Framework and practices to support social emotional competence and engage in work that supports this model, including coaching, on-going professional development and involvement in leadership teams.

6. Continue to advance self and grow as a professional by completing and monitoring their own required professional development as outlined by NH licensing guidelines, participate in coaching and professional development related to Pyramid Model Practices, collaborate with supervisor to create and implement a professional development plan, collaborate with team members, respond to staff communication and participate in committees, retreats, teacher meetings and other Center activities.
