Job Description

COMMUNICATIONS AND MARKETING ADMINISTRATOR, Political Science, to develop, coordinate, and implement an overall communications strategy for the department; and provide administrative support to the department head.  Will coordinate and integrate communications across functional areas in a consistent voice through the department’s website content, news articles, social media, alumni outreach, and newsletters; coordinate the posting, scheduling, and creating of content; manage work with contractors; maintain the department’s website and ensure functionality; support staff/faculty/students with their communication projects; develop audience-focused content and feature stories to promote and advance the department’s programs, resources, people, and events; draft and edit occasional short news stories, department news, and other content under tight deadlines; design and/or draft communications materials; coordinate publicity for dissemination on campus; maintain email distribution lists; coordinate with the Alumni Association and SHASS regarding alumni and donor visits, donor acknowledgments, and events; and edit/update course catalog and office directory.  Will also collect data and supporting documents for and draft the annual report; prepare Visiting Committee material; provide class support with handouts and Canvas; and perform other administrative tasks, e.g., scheduling, reimbursements, reception planning, etc., as needed.  

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED:  B.A./B.S.; at least one year of communications experience; excellent proofreading, interpersonal, analytical, organizational, and written and oral communication skills; sharp eye for detail; ability to prioritize/coordinate multiple assignments simultaneously, deliver quality materials by agreed-upon deadlines, and work effectively with varied constituencies; proficiency with modern, web-based communication methods/tools; experience managing websites using a content management system and managing social media channels (Adobe Acrobat and Dreamweaver, Drupal, Microsoft Office, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram); and familiarity with Adobe Photoshop and InDesign.  PREFERRED: understanding of MIT.  Job #22135-6
