Job Description:

The Accounting Specialist positions are full-time career service positions. The Accounting Specialist will participate in advanced and complex accounting tasks involving the maintenance of financial records and related data; reconcile accounts, post ledgers, maintain journal entries, audit journal entries, prepare check requisitions; and submit regular and specialized accounting reports.  Additionally, the Accounting Specialist will coordinate the activities of support staff, monitor work performance for accuracy and completeness to ensure compliance with established departmental standards; participate in the signing of vouchers and checks, preparation of depository reports, and the retention of appropriate accounting records.  This position may be required to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends, during peak registration periods.  This position reports to the Bursar. 

Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited institution with an associate’s degree and two years accounting or bookkeeping experience. Related experience may be substituted for the required education. Successful results of a criminal background check are required.

Pursuant to College policy, it is an employment eligibility requirement for an applicant to meet the requirements of § 435.04(2), Florida Statutes, related to background investigations.  Any person failing to meet the requirements of the statute will be deemed not qualified to hold employment in this position.  A Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) approved background check will be conducted on every successful candidate as a condition of employment, and any person who fails to disclose any adverse information contained in the background investigation at the time of submitting the employment application will be disqualified from employment.

Preferred Qualifications:  Prefer supervisory experience; experience and knowledge of fund accounting and account balancing; experience using automated accounting processes, Microsoft Office software (including Word and Excel); demonstrated organizational and interpersonal skills; and documented cashiering and excellent customer service experience.  

SALARY:  $27,825.00 ($14.27/hour)
