As a Communications Research Engineer, you will...

  • Research new technologies and develop solutions to address evolving threats.
  • Have the opportunity to engage with sponsors to understand and tackle their toughest problems.
  • Work with technologies including, but not limited to wired, wireless (RF & optical), line-of-sight (LOS) and beyond-line-of-sight (BLOS) links, SATCOM, IP networking, RF systems, protocols, software defined radio (SDR), stealth waveforms, 5G cellular and cognitive radio.

Qualifications

You meet the minimum qualifications for this position if you...

  • Possess a PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or another technical discipline.
  • Have at least one year of experience in communications, signal processing or networks systems engineering.
  • Are proficient in communication theory and digital signal processing (DSP), with a solid foundational knowledge of, and experience with, the physical, data link, and media access layers of communication or networking systems.
  • Have experience in modeling and simulation of the physical layer with MATLAB, Python, or other languages.
  • Have a demonstrated strong teamwork and interpersonal skills, as well as excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • re able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Top Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
  • Can demonstrate that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. To ensure the safety and well-being of the community, APL has established a policy requiring that all staff be vaccinated against COVID-19. All staff members must provide proof of full vaccination or have an approved medical or religious accommodation by their start date.

 

You’ll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • Have at least five years experience in commercial and/or government communication and network systems engineering.
  • Have recent knowledge of DoD and/or intelligence community, sponsors, and programs.
  • Hold an active TS/SCI w/ Poly clearance.
