Early College CTE/Chapter 74 Career Advisor( Part-Time)

Job Description

Assist the Career Development Center with facilitating career development and services to Early College/Chapter 74/CTE students in Worcester/Central MA high schools. The Career Advisor will meet with students at the college or high school, provide career workshops, arrange visits to career related locations such as hospitals and businesses, along with other career related activities. In addition, the CA will meet with and visit with high school seniors as they prepare for and transition to college. The CA will follow students from high school to college to assist them with college registration, career choices, enrollment, access to financial aid and QCC resources, with EC and Articulated credit awards, and next steps in their career pathways. The CA will support QCC's commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Reports to the Director of Educational Partnerships K-12 & Early College Initiatives

 

 

Duites and Responsibilities

  • Meet with CTE/Chapter 74 students at the high school and college
  • Provide career workshops on soft skills resume writing, interview skills, current job availability, salaries, skills in career pathways
  • QCC Certificate and AA Degree offerings to guide students with their individual career course pathways
  • Arrange visits to career related locations such as hospitals, companies, restaurants, and businesses, along with other career related activities
  • Communicate frequently with staff and students at the CTE/Chapter 74 high schools
  • By phone, via email, text, or through web conferencing provide students with step-by-step instructions on how to navigate high school to college with success
  • Hold meetings, discuss with the student about college credits earned through Chapter 74/CTE, career pathways, college courses in the career pathway, current career information. (LMI)
  • Discuss time management and organizational strategies with students who are falling behind in their courses.
  • Help students to identify, understand, and access career and college resources to address their concerns, for example, explaining how a student needs to contact Financial Aid before withdrawing from a course to see how it may affect their future financial aid allotment.
  • Discuss with students their concerns and hurdles that are preventing them from being successful in their career and college classes; provide a listening ear, recommendations, and encouragement to get the student back on track
  • Attend trainings and dedicate time to using and learning about other tools, such as Blackboard Collaborate or Zoom, to enhance communication between the students and faculty members.
  • Attend meetings with faculty to receive feedback on career pathways
  • Acquire and demonstrate an understanding of the professional work environment by observing timeliness and preparation for scheduled assignments, working cooperatively with others, presenting oneself as a role model for faculty and others, and by demonstrating dependability and flexibility.
  • Actively support the teaching and learning process; practice honesty and integrity in and out of the classroom; strive to create and support a student-centered environment while fostering academic innovation and excellence.
  • Work actively with other areas of the College to ensure a spirit of college-wide collaboration, collegiality, civility, and teamwork. Respect the function of dissent in an academic institution while advancing a collegial atmosphere of campus collaboration

Job Requirements:


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience with Counseling, Career Advising at high school or college level
  • Experience working with high school students or young adults
  • Demonstrated knowledge of college and career pathways careers
  • Demonstrated knowledge of high college to college career pathways
  • High-level skill attainment in the following: accuracy in writing and updating print documents and information; written and verbal communication skills; working with students, faculty, and/or staff individually and in groups in various modalities
  • Demonstrated success in developing and managing creative and complex projects.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience providing support with product such as Blackboard Collaborate or Zoom and via a learning management system such as Blackboard Learn
  • Experience with career support and advising to students
  • Experience working in community college and/or high school.
  • Experience working with and supporting a culturally diverse population.
  • Experience working with virtual and hybrid educational technology
