Overview
The One-to-One program is Dana-Farber’s telephone peer support program. The program links our trained volunteers who have “been there” with individuals who would like support from a peer. For patients and families who are dealing with cancer connecting with someone who understands can be a great source of comfort. Our peer-mentors listen and can talk about what their own experiences were.
The Coordinator supports the Director of Volunteer Services with all programmatic functions. This includes connecting patients and family members, database management and planning for trainings and educational meetings. The Coordinator is also tasked with expanding the reach of the program to disease centers and satellite locations. The role supports the on-site volunteer services staff and patient facing resources as needed.
Responsibilities
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Connect patients, family members, and coordinate referrals from multiple sources
- Work with disease centers to identify and recruit former patients and caregivers
- Support marketing efforts to specific disease centers to increase mentors and patients
- Manage program database
- Assist with creation and revisions to training materials and informational packets
- Triage incoming requests to appropriate resources
- Recruit and train new volunteer mentors
Provide support and mentorship to volunteers
Qualifications
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- 1 year of relevant experience required
- Bilingual preferred (Spanish)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Ability to mentor, counsel, train, and develop volunteers
- Knowledge and understanding of database management
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Knowledge and understanding of program boundaries
- Ability to utilize support services for patients and families throughout the institute
- Strong networking skills
- Ability to work independently and in a remote environment
