Position Duties

Summary

The Dean of Student Services provides oversight and leadership to enrollment services including Financial Aid, Admissions and Records (and its components including transcript evaluation, graduation, veteran/military services, student records, and registration), student development including advisement to the Associated Student Body and student life, and acts as the primary student discipline officer. The Dean of Student Services reports directly to the Vice President of Student Services.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Dean of Student Services shall:


  • Provide administrative leadership for integrated delivery of student development and enrollment services, including Admissions and Records, Financial Aid, Military/Veterans Services, Graduation, Evaluations, and Residency.

  • Provide administrative leadership for the student life including the Associated Student Body.

  • Supervise categorical programs and reporting to state and national agencies.

  • Provide on-going support, serve as a resource, and contribute to the College and District's enrollment management plan, implementation, and related committees.

  • Provide support to students in the enrollment services process by referral and upon student request for problem-solving, improving services, and removing barriers.

  • Provide direction and supervision to Counseling and Advising.

  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, college, and district policies within the enrollment services areas.

  • Collaborate with the instructional and administrative wings for the purpose of enhancing enrollment services and provide college-wide coordination and support.

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate all support systems for the College's student development services

  • Design, plan, and coordinate all aspects of the annual Commencement for students.

  • Serve as the Grade Grievance Officer and review other petitions such as fee appeals.

  • Represent the College on various conferences and events as appropriate. Collaborate with external entities and high schools as they relate to assigned duties.

  • Serve as the College's primary discipline officer.

  • Develop and monitor the annual budget for all enrollment services departments and Associated Student Body.

  • Provide leadership for the development of Service Area Outcomes (SAOs) and evaluation of Program Review and planning for the programs under supervision.

  • Hire, mentor, and evaluate employees for each department in enrollment services and student life.

  • Serve on other committees as requested.

  • Perform other special tasks as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills:

The Dean of Student Services shall have knowledge of educational administration and leadership. Policies, laws, and regulations for California Community Colleges. Computer applications for effective management and advancement of enrollment services. Budget management, development, and accounting procedures. Personnel administration and practice.

Abilities:

The Dean of Student Services shall provide educational leadership for a wide variety of administrative departments involved with enrollment services and student development. Communicate effectively in writing and/or oral presentations. Design, develop and implement effective, integrated programs and services. Analyze and problem solve effectively. Develop and maintain professional relationships in a collaborative working environment.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed indoors where minimal safety considerations exist. Office environment: subject to constant interruptions, may require driving a vehicle to conduct work within and outside of the district. Some weekend and evening work.

 

Qualification

Education and Experience

Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, cultural, disability, religious background of community college students.

Possession of an earned Master's degree from an accredited institution and (3) three years of administrative experience, preferably in enrollment services and student development areas. Bilingual preferred.

Licenses and Certificates

Valid California driver's license.
