Job Description

The University of Notre Dame Enterprises and Events (UEE) division is currently hiring for the position of Baker 2 within the department of Center for Culinary Excellence. The UEE division leads the University’s event management, hospitality, and customer service functions while supporting student life, academic endeavors, and research initiatives.

Why this position?
As a Baker 2, you will be responsible for producing recipes and following accepted culinary practices. This position will report to the assistant pastry chef, supporting the mission and goals of a “best in class” dining program. As a bakery member of a dynamic production facility, the Baker 2 will support daily operations for all Campus Dining units. As an extended part of the bakery leadership team, a Baker 2 will complete and assign general assignments related to the assembly, preparation, and baking of goods through standards of service and hospitality to ensure the Notre Dame Community and guests with the very best food/service. This position is critical with regards to ensuring that all guests experience excellent baked goods. This is completed by demonstrating a responsive approach to the changing needs and desires of guests. Responsibilities of a Baker 2 include, but are not limited to: Assigned bakery production, following recipes and accepted culinary practices, participation in general assignments, supporting special and/or catered events on campus, performing tasks related to the appearance/safety and sanitation of food production and service.

This position is with University Enterprises and Events at the University of Notre Dame and is eligible for a $1,000 sign-on bonus (1/2 paid after 90 and 180 days of continuous employment). Candidates are only eligible if they are a new employee to the University – current Notre Dame employees who transfer are not eligible. Other rules and conditions apply.

Minimum Qualifications

Education
  • High School Diploma or GED
Experience
  • 1 year professional baking experience
Skills
  • Ability to demonstrate intermediate bakery skills and great attention to detail
  • Fundamental working knowledge of the following basic baking techniques
    • Conversion of both Imperial and Metric measuring systems
    • Scaling
    • Mixing procedures
    • Proofing
    • Baking
    • Decorating
    • Frying
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Ability to work in a professional, hospitable and empathetic manner, to bring the best to the surface of all operations
  • Must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance to professional standards
  • Ability to communicate well with fellow employees and management (both orally and written)
  • Ability to work independently

Preferred Qualifications

Culinary degree or equivalent is preferred. ServeSafe Certification
