The Utilities and Maintenance department is responsible for the efficient operation, management and upkeep of all campus electricity, heating and cooling, as well as the repair and upkeep of all electrical, mechanical, carpentry, plumbing and roofing maintenance at the University. Within Utilities and Maintenance, the team of engineers, power plant operators, zone managers, technicians, mechanics and administrators service over 11 million gross square feet of campus facilities and lead the University’s efforts to reduce its carbon emissions footprint by 50 percent by 2030.
The Instrumentation & Controls Engineer will work on Industrial, Process and Automations systems for utility heat and power generation and distribution, as well as support as needed the building environmental and lighting control aspects of campus. He/She will also provide a source of expertise in areas of various control system design, commissioning, operation, maintenance and troubleshooting for Utilities Power Plant. With a particular focus on the departments existing Distributed Control System (Emerson Delta V) and Schweitzer Engineering (PowerMax) systems. He/she will also work as a member of the Utilities Engineering Group as well as in support of Power Plant Operations and Maintenance groups on projects regarding instrumentation and control aspects of new and upgraded systems. Perform estimating, engineering, design, specifying, material procurement, project management and commissioning of projects. Manage staff and contractor crews on installation of same.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:

Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Oversee, supervise and assist with the performance, expansion, maintenance, calibration, repair, testing and commissioning required to provide safe, efficient and reliable operation of all instrumentation and control (I&C) devices and systems associated with the Utilities Department.
- Develop software and programming for new and modified control systems both independently or with the assistance of third party support.
- Document, manage and maintain an adequate inventory of I&C parts and equipment for all needed repairs.
- Provide oversight of compliance testing, audits and calibrations of all instrumentation and controls to ensure optimum accuracy for operations, records and reports.
- Research, propose, recommend and implement new I&C systems and improvements, repairs or modifications to existing I&C systems. Manage, train and coordinate I&C staff technicians to ensure a timely response to all issues, implement any and all needed corrective measures.
- Understand, develop, implement and maintain the Power Plant instrumentation and control standards and utilize them to review and comment on instrumentation and control drawings and specifications being used on projects.
- Verify that project designs and installations of instrumentation and control systems are in compliance with all relevant codes, standards and regulatory mandates.
This position is required to be available to respond to emergency situations at any time.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree (4 Years) preferably in industrial, electrical, mechanical or controls engineering or related engineering discipline

- Leading Contractors and Technicians in Control and Instrumentation System Engineering
- Instrumentation Selection Distributed Control Systems
- Programming Logic Installation and Safety Practices
- Cable and Equipment Testing
- Troubleshooting
- Testing and Setting of instrumentation and controls
- Familiarity with Industry codes and standards
Preferred Qualifications
ISA; Certified Automation Professional, Certified Control Systems Technician, or an Automation Project Management Specialists is preferred.
