Position Summary

The Supervisor – Student Employment Services is responsible for the planning, development, organization and implementation of employment opportunities including internships, externships, work-study, apprenticeships, and other work experiences for both MCC current students and alumni. The position is also responsible for the overall functioning of the Student Employment Services including budgets, personnel, and operations.

Scope
There are four main areas of importance and emphasis for this position:
1. Continually develop and increase employment opportunities, employment retention and related processes for the Student Employment Services area, and MCC students.
2. Continually develop and increase off campus employment, employment retention and related processes for MCC alumni.
3. Oversee, guide and continually improve the on-campus employment opportunities, employment retention, and related processes for MCC students.
4. General Employment Support Responsibilities to include facilitating relationships between employers, campus departments, community sites, students and alumni.
Dimension
This position may require travel to companies and agencies throughout the college service areas; including but not limited to, Genesee, Shiawassee, Lapeer, and Livingston counties. Customization and delivery of services and offerings delivered to meet the needs of the customer, and satisfy their talent needs. Maintain and uphold professional standards in all segments of the operation. Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings, as needed. Increase the number and type of activities, occurring with credit programs.

Minimum Requirements

1. Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or related field
2. Three (3) years’ experience in workforce development, career services, job development/placement, and/or a staffing agency.
3. Minimum of three (3) years’ work experience in a fast paced office setting, while maintaining excellent customer service (can be concurrent with #2).
4. The ability to interact effectively with a diverse population
5. Ability to manage multiple tasks, set goals and complete work assignments on schedule
6. Demonstrated experience using PC desktop software and databases including but not limited to MS Word, Excel, email, PowerPoint, Access, Experience E-Recruit, and/or College Central Network.
7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
8. Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision
9. Willing and able to work a flexible schedule, evening coverage required, able to travel to meet employers and attend employment related events

Additional Desirable Qualifications

1. Masters degree.
2. Work experience with employment/placement programs or human resources in higher education or human services.
3. Knowledge and familiarity with state and federal employment laws.
4. Understanding of business and corporate culture.
5. Workforce Development certifications (CWDP, CDF, GCDF, BSP, CBSP), or experience in student services in higher education.
6. Data Management & Reporting software experience such as MS Access, Efforts To Outcomes (ETO), Experience, and/or Cognos.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

With or without accommodation, the employee in this position needs to move about and position him/herself to access files and operate office productivity machines. The employee must be able to work at a desk for long periods of time and operate a computer workstation and telephone. It is necessary to communicate both in person and over the telephone with a large variety of people each day. It is also essential to occasionally transport up to 10 pounds. The employee must, with or without accommodation, have the ability to detect information on a computer screen, for example checking email or creating spreadsheets.
This position works in a normal office environment.

Work Schedule

Willing and able to work a flexible work schedule, evening coverage required. This is a full-time, 52 week position.
