Job Description

Description of Duties: The Director of the Congregate Meals Program reports to the Coordinator of Community and Recreational Services. 

Specific duties include the following:  

1. Provide a warm and welcoming environment to the clients of the Chaparral Senior Center

 

  1. Chose menus from required dietary books and make available for at least three months in advance of serving.

     

  2. Order food from vendor and supervise the ingredients of a well-balanced noon meal.

     

  3. Maintain accurate records concerning income, expenditures, and inventory for Chaparral Center.

     

  4. Prepare monthly reports for Nortex Regional Planning Commission on Congregate, Home Delivered and Transportation activities.
    1. Service roster for onsite meals.
    2. Service roster for home delivered meals.
    3. Service roster for transportation trips.
    4. Deposit recap.
    5. Nutrition report
    6. Menu for upcoming month.

       

  5. Plan and administer a budget for onsite, home delivery and transportation for Nortex Regional Planning Commission based on a cost analysis of present year for upcoming year.

     

  6. Coordinate screening for and delivery of home-delivered meals.

     

  7. Prepare and gather information for contracts between Vernon College and Meals on Wheels.

     

  8. Coordinate with Meals on Wheels to prepare appropriate number of daily meals for their clients who qualify. Review and total meal counts to prepare monthly invoice for MOW treasurer, deposit and record monthly MOW payment, and offer Home Delivered Congregate meal service to those on the MOW waiting list when possible.

     

  9. Supervise program instructions from Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services on meal planning guidance requirements and compliance for Meals on Wheels and Chaparral Center.

     

  10. Gather information from congregate and home delivery new clients. Provide mandatory annual home visit for home delivery meal clients. Keep all forms on file and copied to Nortex Regional Planning. (AAA). Annually update all client?s nutritional health form; consumer needs evaluation, client rights, responsibilities, and intake files.

     

  11. Plan social activities and special programs for senior adults. (Veteran?s Day, Valentine King & Queen, etc.); coordinate volunteers to assist with the on-going activities of the program. (Bingo, painting class, etc.); and work with health agencies to conduct services for senior adults. (Blood pressure clinic, exercise class, etc.)

     

  12. Initiate and guide at least one trip per year to sites of interest for senior adults.

     

  13. Coordinate with Wilbarger County to provide a senior transportation service. Gather information for contracts between Vernon College, Wilbarger County, and Texas Department of Aging for senior transportation program, and copy all intake forms for transportation clients and keep on file.  Update files annually. Refer all clients interested in transportation to Wilbarger Senior Citizens van driver. Prepare and send monthly recap to Wilbarger County on van activities. (Number of trips, clients and expenses)

     

  14. Submit purchase orders for all expenditures in a timely manner to Vernon College for payment.

     

  15. Coordinate with Wichita Falls Area Food Bank (WFAFB) on programs helpful to senior adults.

     

  16. Train and document staff in food handling and regulation updates, as well as, administer Civil Rights test and food handlers test to all workers and report training to WFAFB. (Wichita Falls Area Food Bank)

     

  17. Attend WFAFB training annually.

     

  18. Prepare order for the WFAFB ahead of pick up, and travel to Wichita Falls weekly to gather items for the ?give away?, distribute items to clients from WFAFB at two noon meals.

     

  19. Attend training for Senior Farmers Market Vouchers. Enforce requirements for storing & distributing    market vouchers, distribute Farmers Market Vouchers at Chaparral Center and Cupboard By Grace, and prepare Farmers Market recap report and send to WFAFB by the 10th day of each month program is active.

     

  20. Work with food vendors to get a bid sheet for North Texas Senior Food Cooperative, administer Food Cooperative Contracts to all members.  Chair bid opening and notify vendors, and send chosen vendor a list of active members. Serve as the contact person between the vendor and the membership of North Texas Senior Food Cooperative.

     

  21. Locate, hire and train all new employees for their duties.

     

  22. Report Chaparral Center employee?s time worked to Vernon College payroll.

     

  23. Keep fire and safety equipment current.  Train workers in safety processes.

     

  24. Gather information and submit Texans Feeding Texans grant. Assist with gathering information for additional grants as necessary.

     

  25. Prepare and offer informational programs in the community about the meal program.

     

  26. Assume other projects assigned by the Coordinator of Community and Recreational Services, Director of Continuing Education, Dean and VP of Instructional Services and the President.

Travel Required: Minimal

Experience and Training: Three years of relevant experience working with a diverse group of people, as well as, budgets and reports. Management experience preferred. Computer experience required.

Education: High School diploma

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Very detailed/task oriented with strong organizational and time management skills. Able to work independently and efficiently to complete budgets and reports; anticipate deadlines. Ability to relate to the clients and staff effectively; ability to work with a diverse population.

Preferred Qualifications: Associate Degree in Business, Management or similar field.

Minimum Educational Qualifications: High School diploma

Salary or Salary Schedule: This is a full time 12 month position with full time benefits. This position is located in Vernon at the Chaparral Senior Center. The salary is based on 250 points on the Administrative salary schedule. The salary is $30,485 to $32,841 depending on experience and education.
