Communication and Outreach Manager
Job Description
Mount Olivet Rolling Acres – MORA – is a diverse and inclusive nonprofit has supported adults, seniors and children with developmental disabilities, behavioral health needs as well as age-related and chronic medical conditions for over 50 years in the Twin Cities metro.
An array of services: Adult Day Services, Contracted Case Management, Community Supports, over 30 Residential Homes, Respite, Therapeutic Recreation, Training for Guardians & Families, and a unique therapeutic Summer Camp for Youth with Autism. Our Metro Crisis Coordination Program (MCCP) offers a safety net of crucial and cost-effective services for adults and children.
Job Summary: The Communication and Outreach Manager is a key member of the senior leadership team, building messages, materials, and processes that engage internal and external audiences – employees, donors, volunteers, guardians, and community partners. Oversees Volunteer & Engagement Coordinator. Directs marketing, development, and public advocacy initiatives with staff, and contractors, in print and social/digital media. Translates strategic plan into core strategies and actions; creates routines for the organization and supports leaders and program staff to develop their abilities as effective communicators. Collaborates with Board of Directors and/or Board Committees including as an active member of the Board Development Committee.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Communications:
- Leads efforts to translate strategic plan and other initiatives into communication strategies and actions
- Partners with key departments and staff (HR, IT, Finance, Nursing/Res./Rec.) on internal & external communication
- Ensures consistent messages and continually monitors core value messages to ensure connection and consistency within organization
- Creates regularly scheduled communication formats (weekly Zoom calls, weekly emails, quarterly newsletter, etc.)
- Creates and manages timelines, routines, and templates for communications to ensure cadence
- Researches and executes communication processes and vehicles to make news/information accessible and engage staff at all levels
- Continually tracks, measures, improves, and evaluates effectiveness of communication strategies and methods
- Attends leadership meetings and key strategy/committee meetings to identify and implement communication needs for leaders to leverage time and ensure consistency of messages
- Supports engagement processes to significantly improve participation rates and to build trust in the process
- Facilitates and coaches within internal meetings as a guide for healthy workplace communication and clear next steps
- Leads the organization’s Communication and Marketing Committee to bring employees from all departments together to identify communication needs and strategize execution
Marketing:
- Oversees representation and consistency of MORA messages and brand in all materials to external audiences
- Connects leaders from different service areas to strengthen whole organization messages/marketing
- Coordinates creative contractors, volunteers, and interns on marketing materials
- Collaborates to plan, write, and design for social media channels
- Liaison with Board and Board Committees, active member of the Development Committee
- Manages the Volunteer Coordinator work effort oversight and support of recruitment and marketing of volunteer opportunities
Basic Requirements:
- Maintains confidentiality in accordance with HIPPA and MORA policies and procedures.
- Requires the ability to work flexible hours (evening/weekend hours) to visit Homes or attend events during times when staff are present
- Completes required annual trainings to be present with clients
Desirable Qualifications:
- BA/BS in the communications field
- Experience engaging staff in multi-location company through designing and implementing effective internal communications
- Ability to create processes, train and coach others to build strong communication skills
- Prior experience working within a nonprofit, human services organization
- Ability to create and use videos to engage and communicate
Required Requirements:
- Excellent verbal, written, and human communication skills
- Excellent organization/project management skills
- Experience with print and digital design (website, social media, newsletters, branding, etc.)
- Prior leadership experience (2 years of supervisory experience) with proven track record of effectively communicating with direct reports and peers
- Proven track record of achieving agreed upon results
- Proven track record of building strong, trusting relationships at all staff levels
- Ability to work independently with minimal instruction and make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- Must pass Department of Human Services background check and maintain “qualified” status.
- Must not be excluded from working in government health programs by the Office of Inspector General.
- Demonstrates mastery of computer skills including PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Must have a current valid driver’s license and must have insurance as required by state law.
- Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or be granted a medical or religious exemption by Mount Olivet Rolling Acres.

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in social work, psychology, special education, nursing, sociology, or a closely related field.
