In 1957, the County of Westchester bought the 360-acre John Hartford estate in Valhalla and designated 218 acres for the community college. Job Description:

Under the general direction of the Vice President and Dean of Workforce Development and Community Education, the incumbent serves as part of the leadership team of the division. As such, they participate in the planning, development and implementation of strategies to meet divisional goals in accordance with established policies and procedures of SUNY Westchester Community College. The incumbent assists in the establishment of long and short-term fiscal and programmatic goals; participates in the selection and evaluation of staff, the development of procedures and qualitative standards.  In particular, the incumbent is responsible for the identification and solicitation of businesses and industry partnerships that result in revenue generating opportunities to deliver training and education for the workforce and within our business community.

The incumbent regularly interacts with other college administrators, and representatives from business, labor, not for profit and government agencies to identify and develop additional collaborative non-credit/credit partnerships and to further the College's participation in workforce and economic development initiatives within our service area.

Specifically, the Assistant Dean, Workforce Development and Community Education is responsible for:

  • Fostering relationships with employers, regional directors of economic development and other relevant stakeholders to develop and deliver incumbent worker training.
  • Implementing strategies and providing oversight of programs that address the skills and workplace competencies identified by the regional employer community.
  • Serving as a liaison between the business community, the Division of Workforce Development and Community Education, and the College's academic departments.
  • Sourcing non-grant funded, revenue generating workforce development education and training initiatives; develops, implements, coordinates and evaluates programs  
  • Oversight and stewardship of departmental revenue and expense budgets

The incumbent is also responsible for:

  • The overall administration and supervision of The Professional Development Center, and the Center for Financial and Economic Education;
  • Providing vision and direction aligned with the college's strategic plan in the areas of employer partnerships;
  • Developing and maintaining strong relationships with external partners and stakeholders, including business and industry representatives, workforce development boards, community-based organizations and coalitions and government officials to develop and implement programs and initiatives that serve the educational and training needs of a diverse county and service area and strengthen students' capacity to succeed in credential completion and career mobility;
  • Collaborating with businesses, unions and directors of economic development in Westchester and portions of Putnam Counties;
  • Actively participating in all applicable campus committees to collaborate with colleagues, advancing the college mission, ensuring alignment of WDCE workforce programs with credit-earning curricula, and to stay abreast of academic divisions' need for support from regional businesses and unions;
  • Collaborating with divisional colleagues and across college divisions to respond to federal, state and private grant opportunities to support the mission and initiatives of the college;
  • Providing marketing and public relations direction for the Professional Development Center.
  • Fiscal responsibility for self-sustaining budgets of all programs under their supervision; including grant funded budget lines. 
  • All other duties, as assigned.


Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate must possess and minimum of a Bachelor's degree and one of the following:

  • A Master's Degree plus five years of experience in educational or business administration, or the planning and development of education, employment training or human development programs, three years of which must have been in an administrative or supervisory position;
  • A minimum of seven years of experience in educational or business administration, or the planning and development of education, employment training or human development programs, three years of which must have been in an administrative or supervisory position.

All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Administrative and supervisory experience in workforce development field and a proven track record of successful relationship building with the employer community, government agencies and community and civic organizations preferred. Management of revenue generating budgets; superior written and verbal communication skills; experience overseeing corporate training programs; and grant writing experience also preferred.

SALARY & BENEFITS:  The starting salary is $98,184 plus excellent benefits.
