The Texas A&M Institute of Data Science (TAMIDS) is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate for the Design & Analytics Lab for Urban Artificial Intelligence (DAL). The successful candidate will work at the interface of artificial intelligence and urban design/analytics, developing visual analytics and simulation methods and applying them in various cutting-edge urban projects with researchers from various related disciplines affiliated with TAMIDS. The preferred candidate will have a strong academic or industrial background in the urban informatics and artificial intelligence areas. Required Education and Experience:

  • Appropriate PhD

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Demonstrated expertise in machine/deep learning methods and foundations

  • Good understanding of numerical methods

  • Strong programming skills, including use of Python and/or R

  • Experience using high-performance computational platforms

  • Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams and/or workflows across multiple software programs

  • Good communication skills

  • Ability to cultivate and maintain professional working relationships with people of diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • PhD in computer science, geographic information system, urban planning, or related area to Data Science


  • Experience with urban informatics, computational social sciences, or geospatial artificial intelligence

  • Experience with grant writing

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to cultivate and maintain professional working relationships with people of diverse backgrounds

Responsibilities:

  • Performs original high-quality research within the multidisciplinary collaborative groups in Urban Artificial Intelligence Lab.
  • Applies methods of Data Science to problems in data-driven urban research
  • Works collaboratively with members of the lab on research activities and pilot programs.
  • Produces publications, conference papers and other research outputs, and write grant proposals.
  • Promotes the research associated with Urban Artificial Intelligence Lab by developing and delivering talks and short courses. Assists with proposal writing for grant obtainment or otherwise.
  • Develops software packages to implement lab research results and provide consultation on usage.
  • Assists with the organization of community building activities and assists with the day-to-day operations of the lab.
  • Assists with mentoring research students in the group and/or interdisciplinary student team projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
