This position involves preparing for and teaching courses in Health Education in order to achieve course requirements and student success outcomes. Course assignments may occur in a classroom setting, learning lab, online or dual enrollment environment.
Responsibilities:
  • Teaches assigned classroom courses and labs.
  • Develops and updates syllabi for courses assigned and ensures course content and requirements meet the requirements of college and accreditation agencies.
  • Develops appropriate assessment tools to determine course effectiveness and assures that student outcomes are achieved.
  • Assesses student academic achievement and provides students with timely and meaningful feedback on progress in the course(s).
  • Maintains and reports appropriate classroom records, to include student attendance and grades.
  • Holds appropriate office hours for meeting with and assisting students.
  • Maintains regular communication with full-time and adjunct faculty in the assigned departments(s), the Library and Learning Services area, and Registrar and Retention Services.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings and in-service programs within the department and college-wide; serves on college committees as encouraged/assigned.
  • Supports and serves as a role model for our mission, vision, and student service initiatives.
  • Adheres to the policies, procedures, and compliance guidelines of the college. Ensures all communications and practices demonstrate support of the Ethics for Teaching Professionals.

  • Per the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act),a federal consumer protection law, your job position entails functions that meet the definition of a Campus Security Authority (CSA). CSAs have a duty to report any crime to the College’s Clery Compliance Officer. This information may be disclosed to them directly, through third-party, or witnessed. As a CSA, you are required to complete annual training which is provided by the College. This training encompasses your role, responsibilities, and reporting obligations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Knowledge of Health Education (HED) and/or Public Health course content and learning objectives of assigned course(s).
  • Ability to develop and effectively deliver course content/objectives and facilitate an effective learning environment for students to maximize their success.
  • Multidisciplinary focus and ability to align teaching with the broader goals and objectives within Health Education and the College.
  • Knowledge of computer and educational technology and ability to effectively integrate technology into the classroom.
  • Ability to plan, organize and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and be comfortable working in a close, collaborative manner with other faculty and administration.
Education:
  • Degree in Health Education or closely related field required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
Experience:
  • One – three years of teaching college level courses in the discipline area strongly preferred.
  • Experience with online instruction and learning management systems preferred.
  • Previous experience in a community college environment preferred.
Working Environment:
  • The job responsibilities of this position are performed in a classroom environment which requires a professional image and demeanor, on-time attendance and reliability. The environment has little, if any discomfort due to heat, cold or dust. There is light noise within the environment.
  • There may be travel to other college locations for meetings. Travel between campus locations is required.
  • Job duties may be performed in an independent or a team atmosphere.
  • The job has intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking, standing, sitting, stooping, bending, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward (5- 45 pounds).
  • Must meet reasonable and sometimes shifting deadlines, quotas, or demands for accuracy, and may be involved in some unpleasant situations.
  • Work scheduled may vary each semester depending on class times/locations.
