Job Description

 

This position is responsible for creating and implementing a comprehensive success model to support military-connected students in their attainment of goals and progression toward degree completion. The Military and Veteran Success Coach will work in collaboration with faculty and staff to maintain ongoing communication with military-connected students by using a case management approach to promote retention, progression, and completion. The Military and Veteran Success Coach will work in partnership with the SCC Ryan Veterans Center staff to ensure military-connected students are receiving support services and will work in conjunction with the Director of Military & Veterans Affairs on student success efforts. In addition, the Military and Veteran Success Coach will provide support and assist with other essential functions of the Student Services Division. This is a primarily a part-time day position with some scheduled evening and weekend work. Local travel required.

 

Responsibilites

 

Case Management

• Schedule and meet with students, both individually and in groups, to develop structured Student Success Plans.

• Track student academic progress.• Identify students at-risk and provide academic interventions as well as make referrals when elicited.

• Conduct individualized follow-up sessions to provide support to students.

• Facilitate student connections with other departments on campus including but not limited to the career center, student life, and the academic department of their major.

• Oversee the formation of veteran-to-veteran mentoring program.

• Initiate regular communication with each sector of the military population.

 

Liaison

• Work closely with academic departments, faculty advisors and support staff members to ensure that students are enrolled in courses required for their program of study.

• Facilitate and coordinate outreach mentoring efforts with community partners.

 

Data Collection

• Collect both quantitative and qualitative data related to each student, major and caseload.

• Generate reports based on collected data.

• Conduct program evaluations.

• Regularly report results of evaluation to Director of Military & Veteran Affairs and Vice President of Student Services.

• Contribute to end of-semester and annual reports on student success, persistence and retention.

 

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate’s degree required.

• Understanding of the  military culture and military service impact on learning.

• Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills.

• Demonstrated ability to multitask.

• Demonstrated ability to work with technology including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

• Demonstrated ability to adapt to change.

Preferred Qualifications

•  Bachelor’s degree preferred. 

• Demonstrated experience with VA education benefits and Tuition Assistance for Active-Duty Service Members.

• Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a team environment and with a diverse population.

• Experience in higher education.

• Demonstrated experience with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

• Prior experience serving in the military.
