We currently have a fantastic opportunity for a talented, forward-thinking individual who shares our vision of helping Girl Scouts change the world for the better. Girl Scouts of Oregon and Southwest Washington is hiring for a Major Gifts and Planned Giving Officer.


What you'll do

As the Major Gifts and Planned Giving Officer, you’ll design, develop and implement major and planned giving strategies. You’ll manage the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship process of high-capacity donors and identify new prospects. In this role, you’ll directly impact the organization’s reputation among donors, alumnae, sponsors, families, and other clients and the financial and operational performance of the Fund Development department.

Responsibilities include:

  • Secure major gifts of at least $1,000 to raise $150,000-$200,000 annually. Grow major and planned giving programs to eventually oversee a portfolio of 150-200 donors and prospects.
  • Participate in each step of the donor pipeline, including identification, qualification through research, cultivation, briefing, requests for support, prompt follow-up, stewardship, and recognition.
  • Make direct, face-to-face solicitations and assist the board and other staff with their solicitation (e.g., provide portfolio development support, strategic counsel, schedule meetings for others, and help with donor communications).
  • Manage systems and software to track and cultivate donors and prospects, including our donor database and wealth screening tools.
  • Create and implement moves management plans. Develop individual donor strategies and materials to renew and upgrade donor gifts.
  • Acknowledge major donors through public and private recognition.
  • Track and report progress using specific metrics.
  • Work in partnership with Fund Development Department to align fundraising efforts, set goals, and ensure proper execution of the entire fund development strategy.
  • Assist in the development of the departmental budget and ensure proper oversight.
  • Collaborate with the CEO, Director of Development, Fund Development team, and board to enhance relationships and create greater fundraising and outreach possibilities.
  • Participate in the departmental portfolio review process and be a partner in maintaining an organized system for donor stewardship by updating constituent records as appropriate.

  • Demonstrated experience, success, and progressive responsibility in fundraising with a minimum of three (3) years of experience.
  • Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) is highly preferred.
  • Understanding of planned giving tools and strategies.
  • Ability to set goals strategically and achieve them.
  • High level of discretion and ethical approach to fundraising.
  • Proven ability to interact with and influence philanthropic leaders.
  • Experience motivating and managing high-profile volunteer leadership and senior executives.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with various internal and external constituents.
  • Ability to organize and complete multiple tasks simultaneously with close attention to detail and prioritization to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in database management, Microsoft Office Suite, and other computer skills.
  • Passion for the Girl Scout mission to harness, leverage, and strategically invest the collective power of donors, advocates, and volunteers to drive measurable results that improve the lives of girls throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington.
  • Ability to travel up to 80% of the time to out-of-office events, meetings, conferences, networking, training, etc. Reliable transportation. May occasionally include overnight and long-distance travel.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.

The Details

  • Compensation – Exempt/salaried, starting at $80,000 per year, depending on qualifications.
  • Benefits – Health, dental, life, long-term disability, and short-term disability insurance. We also provide a generous retirement plan, paid time off, and paid holidays. See more details on our website.
  • Hours – Full-time, business hours, with some flexibility. Some evenings and weekends, and occasional overnight trips.
  • Location – This role requires frequent travel, up to 80% of the time to out-of-office events, meetings, conferences, networking, training, etc. May occasionally include overnight and long-distance travel. Regular job duties can be performed remotely, in our Bend or Portland Service Center, or in a hybrid setting based on your preference. You must live within the Girl Scouts of Oregon and Southwest Washington service area, in Bend or the Portland Metro area highly preferred.
