South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) seeks highly motivated and qualified individuals for the positions of Workforce Transition Specialist.

As part of a comprehensive team spanning multiple areas of student services, the Workforce Transitions Specialist designs and implements programs and services that utilize the WorkFirst, Opportunity Grant, Basic Food Education Training (BFET), and Worker Retraining programs as a means of assisting current and prospective students to develop resiliency, achieve their educational goals and prepare for entry into the workforce. The Workforce Transitions Specialist reports directly to the Dean of Student Financial Services. A flexible working schedule is required as the position may require some evening and weekend work.

What You'll Do
The Workforce Transitions Specialist general responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


Design and conduct intake orientations to inform students regarding specific Workforce Transitions program requirements and benefits.

  • Assess and determine student program eligibility for the WorkFirst, Opportunity Grant, BFET, and Worker Retraining programs.
  • Using data driven methods, and by coordinating with other campus resources, develop and implement support systems and interventions designed to promote retention, educational attainment, resiliency, and career readiness of students who are utilizing the WorkFirst, Opportunity Grant, BFET, and Worker Retraining programs.
  • Design and conduct outreach efforts that encourage students to apply for and participate in Workforce transitions programs that they may qualify for.
  • Perform referrals as appropriate to internal and external resources for students.
  • Perform routine reporting of student compliance and education activity via the eJAS system. Ensure accuracy of relevant data entry by other WorkForce Transitions staff.
  • Maintain appropriate student coding in the Student Management System.
  • Provide student eligibility data and to office of Student Financial Services in order to assist with coordination of benefits.
  • Serve as the college's primary point of contact with students, DSHS, Department of Commerce, SBCTC, and other state agencies with regard to administering the WorkFirst, Opportunity Grant, BFET, and Worker Retraining programs.
  • Monitor overall fund expenditures for the purpose of recommending eligibility for students.
  • Assist with the college's compliance with complex rules governing the WorkFirst, Opportunity Grant, BFET, and Worker Retraining programs.
  • Assist with grant preparation and renewal.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Support the college’s mission by creating a work environment of mutual respect and fairness, while encouraging creative and critical thinking.

Qualifications You Possess
Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Social Sciences, Education, or a related field from an accredited college or university OR equivalent mix of education and experience that demonstrates the candidate meets the competency requirements for the position.
  • Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and technology used to track student interactions and services.
  • Demonstrated experience or participation with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working/learning environment.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with federal and state reporting for Workforce programs.
  • Experience in a college work environment.
