Summary

Ensure that the production of content for specialized tests, products, and services meets or exceeds expectations for content, design, quality, and timeliness, maintaining our organization’s position as a leading provider of English language assessments and services.

The Assessment Supervisor supervises and trains assessment team members, maintains appropriate documentation, implements quality assurance systems, and promotes continuous process improvement.

Responsibilities*

  • Lead content development planning for forms/pools and items and for the revision of items based on performance reviews, including performing item reviews.
  • Supervise staff on the assessment team, continually building and enhancing communication, teamwork, professional development, and core skills among the team.
  • Create and maintain policies/procedures and promote continuous improvement efforts to gain efficiencies while adhering to best practices.
  • Provide frequent reporting of assessment metrics and identify areas for continuous improvement. Lead on agreed-upon implementations, as required.
  • Serve as subject matter expert for creation and revision of assessment materials and lead or contribute to trainings.
  • Supervise recruitment, training, and coordination of item writers, examiners, and raters.
  • Other contributions including research and innovation commensurate with level and experience may be required.

Required Qualifications*

  • M.A. in field closely related to foreign language testing (e.g., TESOL, applied linguistics, language testing)
  • Superb ability to develop test items and other educational content for English language learners
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Leadership, training, and mentoring skills with demonstrated ability to consistently give constructive critical feedback on product content
  • Competent user of basic office IT products and the ability to quickly learn new software programs as needed
  • Ability to achieve results in a high-pressure environment
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team
  • Significant experience writing and/or reviewing a variety of item types for large-scale, high-stakes language tests

Desired Qualifications*

  • Teaching certification: ESL/ELL/ENL endorsement
  • Experience in developing curricula/educational materials/formative assessments
  • Experience with digitally-delivered educational content and assessments
  • Some experience managing staff
  • Experience teaching English as a foreign or second language

Work Locations

This position may be eligible for remote and/or flexible work opportunities at the discretion of the hiring department.  Flexible work agreements are reviewed annually and are subject to change dependent on the business needs of the hiring department, throughout the course of employment.

Michigan Language Assessment is seeking candidates located across the US and supports a fully remote work from home schedule with occasionally scheduled in person activities.
