2023 Graduate - Electrical or Computer Engineering/Computer Science - Advanced Radio-frequency (RF) Capabilities

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab

Job Description

Description

Are you passionate about building new capabilities, end to end?

Do you love tinkering with electronics, working collaboratively to tackle exciting and interesting problems?

If you are graduating with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, software engineering, math, or related field and want to work in an exciting and collaborative environment to solve challenging problems, we would love to have you join our team!

The Advanced RF group builds custom software-defined transceiver systems. Everything from capturing radio frequency (RF) signals over the air to the operator station software an operator uses is designed and built by our multidisciplinary team. We design systems that range from massive RF processing capabilities to small, low-power systems designed for specialized application. Signal processing, antenna design, RF and digital board design, field-programmable gate array (FPGA) and embedded software design, application software engineering, and testing and integration are just some of the technical specialties of our engineers.

On the Advanced RF Capabilities team, you might:

  • Design groundbreaking circuits that integrate analog/RF and high speed digital components, commercially available chipsets, and embedded processors
  • Develop, implement, and test back-end and user-facing software applications, mobile applications, and web applications
  • Develop software and firmware for both custom-designed and commercially available chipsets, embedded processors, and FPGAs
  • Implement novel signal processing algorithms for various types of RF communications

 FOCUS AREAS

  • Exploitation Concepts
  • Signal Processing Development
  • Signal-Locating Hardware
  • Wireless Systems
  • Algorithms and Applications
  • Signal-Locating Software

Qualifications

You will meet our minimum requirements if you:

  • Possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, software engineering, math, or related field.
  • Have interest and experience in one or more of the following:
    • Programming in C/C++, C#, or Java
    • Scripting with MATLAB, Python, or other scripting languages
    • Designing analog/RF and high-speed digital circuits
    • Working with embedded systems or FPGAs
    • Programming in Javascript and web application frameworks such as AngularJS, JQuery, or Vue.js.
  • Are able to work effectively in small, multi-disciplinary teams
  • Have general knowledge of laboratory test equipment such as power supplies, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and vector network analyzers.
  • Are able to ultimately obtain a Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
  • Can demonstrate that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. To ensure the safety and well-being of the community, APL has established a policy requiring that all staff be vaccinated against COVID-19. All staff members must provide proof of full vaccination or have an approved medical or religious accommodation by their start date.
